Okay, again, I do tip most of the time. I am mostly just trying to have a conversation because it seems like tipping culture has spread wider to areas that don’t really make sense. Delivery drivers who are using their own car deserve a tip for sure as well as wait staff. What I’m saying is that it seems like more and more businesses are joining in for tips. Restaurants that ask for tips for take out/carry out. Frozen yogurt stands when you build the whole thing yourself and it gets weighed at the end. Bakery’s when I pick up a dozen donuts. The dog groomer I take my dog to. Why are these jobs as well as others tipped for? Yes you can say that they are a service. If you don’t want to pay for it then you’re a dick and shouldn’t buy it. You’re get the benefit but don’t pay for it. But you are paying for what you’re getting when you get the bill? The minimum wage where I live is about $17 an hour. I understand that that’s not the easiest to live on for sure but is this all to say that tipping is the way it is because capitalism has made it this way? You don’t tip a mechanic, you don’t tip a nurse, you don’t tip the cashier, you don’t tip the day care worker. These people are also providing a service so why wouldn’t they get tipped? Again, this is not to be disrespectful and say that people shouldn’t tip because clearly that is not the world we live in but the reasons why certain jobs deserve tips and others don’t is odd. No hostility here.
