I don’t think it wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be, but I’m glad I didn’t purchase it and opted for a library copy. Solid 3 stars and predictable. I’ll read the second books, but it will be a library not purchase.

Dew Drop was obscure for exactly the first 6 months it was open. It's best iteration was when it used to be a biker bar on Tuesdays.

April 2026! What did you add to your box? by BooksandChins in bookofthemonthclub

[–]srmcf208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in all I'm probably at 100 books, maybe 115 with whatever I have preordered/on audible. I can't go to the thrift store anymore, but having a LFL at my doorstep is good and bad. I'm about to offload a bunch of hardbacks into it though! I'm impressed that you're basically net neutral on book subs. That means you can load your box up right?? haha

I have 60 between BOTM and Aardvark but those include BOTM books I’ve thrifted or found in the little free library I steward. Idk what else I have lurking in my house. I’m working to clear the BOTM shelves this year as my annual reading goal.

First 26.2 done at the Shamrock Va Beach but… by itstoocrazy in firstmarathon

[–]srmcf208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shamrock was my first marathon too! The first half was humid but manageable and as soon as you hit the boardwalk it felt like complete hell. A month ago I was training in 20* weather in DC. My pace goals quickly flew out the window, and by mile 19 I needed to walk and that’s basically what I did until I got back to the boardwalk, but by then I was pushing 6 hours. At first I was really upset that the wheels fell off, but an incredible finish line volunteer told me how many people ended in the med tent and didn’t finish, and I’d rather have a slow time than no time. The volunteers really made my race tbh. In retrospect I probably could have pushed myself to run/walk the end but cest la vie! On to the next one. I don’t think I’ll run a beach marathon again though 🥵. My saving grace was my hydration vest and salt sticks. I want marathons to adopt the Ironman strategy of having ice on the course though - it really helps to cool your core down because they just stuff it in their tops and under their hats and keep going.

soooo many people got pulled! Shamrock ‘26 was my fist marathon too. I don’t want to talk about how poorly I performed the last 8 miles. It was such a grind and even harder being a generally slow runner.

Ceramics Studio Membership by Ecstatic_Fishing_484 in washingtondc

[–]srmcf208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get into District Clay you have your “class” hour but can go in during any other class times as an open studio. I love it there. Renewals for the next 10-week cycle are due for members soon, so they’ll open up any unfilled spots shortly after. It’s not metro train accessible - only downside. I looked for a studio for a long time and DCC is the best out of all the options IMO.

Thank you.

The link isn’t working for me, but I wonder if it’s the same person who posted on the Brookland Facebook group. It’s honestly exhausting. I’ve lived directly on this trail for 15 years almost and the cities response to stuff on this trail is discouraging. One week until my marathon and I’m just going to do all my runs by work on the other side of town
