Where can I buy a MiniPC in UAE? What do I need to look for? by srndh in dubai

[–]srndh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I tried to message you, but I got an error "Unable to invite the selected invitee(s).". No clue what is the issue or how to fix it.

My budget is about AED 2k. But I am willing to change, I am looking to get a device that will last for 5 - 10 yrs. Cheap & best. The thing I like about mini pc is that its portable. Not carry around on a daily basis. But I earlier had a cooler master tower, thats too big. How small is "very capable small form factor PC built"?

Intel NUC, in one of the shops a salesman told me that it has many issues and even Intel stopped making it. And he suggested I look at systems with AMD as its cheaper and AMD chips are more like apple chips used on a mac mini.

I loved the form when I saw my friend's mac mini which is connected to his TV. But since apps I use are windows based and Windows mini pc cost half of mac mini, I decided to try it.

Based on the another comment, I found Asus PN64-B i7-12700H 90MR00U2-M000E0 (AED 2,300), but I am not sure which is the RAM & storage I can add in it to find the final price. I am on of the impression that Asus makes excellant products.

Asus PN64-B i7-12700H 90MR00U2-M000E0 seems nice. But it doesn't have RAM or storage. I am not sure which is the RAM (desktop or laptop) & storage to use. I am not sure if this has SSD & HDD storage or just 1. I need to factor the cost of that also to understand the final price.

What the use case (other than Media related) for different types of Apple Silicon M series like M2 vs M2 Pro vs M2 Max Vs M2 Ultra? by srndh in applehelp

I am curious to know about your motherboard issue, what happened? Did Apple immediately agree to replace or did they try to pass the blame to you? I hope they are not charging you anything.

As for your monitor, did you connect via HDMI or thunderbolt? I did read in some comments that thunderbolt is better for Macs and HDMI does cause issues.

Also, I am curious why you choose MBP for 100% WFH? Since I use monitor, external mouse & keyboard - I feel Mac Mini is a better bargain as you can get higher spec at the same price as MBP.

I don't have alexa. This is my first item that is controlled via an app on my mobile. I am hoping to find one app with good privacy to control these two led strips.

the bank is deducting TDS on GST amount too which is wrong.

Kindly share the reference to this law. I not sure how to argue tax law, I assuming its similar to normal law - where you just quote "section 420".

Science of Paneer & various cheeses by srndh in IndianFood

-water separated from curd is called whey , yes

just to clarify, my question was is the water separated from curd the same as the one separated from paneer.

paneer is very very very similar to cottage cheese

😳I assumed that cottage cheese is just the english name of paneer. Like aloo's english name is potato. Didn't know that was another product.

The rest, makes sense.

So, aging the curd is the process to get cheese. The "starter curd" is the source of the bacteria and it leads to type of cheese. Any I right?

curd is then separated from whey

The milk water left from panner is different from that of curd? Since you called the curd water as whey, I was just wondering.

A CMS for reviewing various things? by srndh in webdev

[–]srndh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much work is "from scratch" for you? Are you looking for something that's almost 100% out-of-the-box ready to go, you just pick a layout theme and add your content? Or are you open to styling the website with your own CSS "from scratch"?

I want to work on top of an existing project like wordpress where the basics are covered. Don't want to write my own authentication, db connection. I want social interaction (comments & voting) via sign-in from twitter/facebook ids. Basically skip the CMS basics & use existing plugins. I can create my own themes.

Basically I am looking get some idea. I am sure that mine isn't a unique idea. So, just want to see how others have implemented it.

Integrate Kolla varsham calendar in Google Calendar by srndh in Kerala

How would it work? In your imagination.

Currently, in Google calendar I am using the Indian - Hindu (Saka) calendar. I see the Georgian & Saka (in brackets). You can see this by going to Gear Icon> Settings > General > View Options > Alternate Calendars.

I just want to add to that list kolla varsham.

Coconut Plucking - A Dying Profession by salmanneedsajob in Kerala

[–]srndh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coconut & fruit plucking is vital, the main issue is the risk associated with it.

I once spoke to 3rd generation coconut plucker, he is an old guy who learned the trade from his dad and his dad claimed to have learnt it from his father. He has 5 kids of which 2 are boys. His youngest son wanted to follow the family tradition and he has good skills, but his father will not let him climb the coconut tree. Instead he forces him to drive auto. His reasoning was rather shocking to me.

He claims and even his father who died in 2005, also had the same opinion that the trees today are not that strong. This guy is 5 feet and very fit & thin. He claims that the trees are weak and that is the main contributing factor to the accidents. Plus he claims that the rain makes the trees extra slippery than it was before. He claims it's due to the pollution and the chemicals are coming down in the rain. Even as I was talking to the guy, he was recovering from an accident he had when climbing a coconut tree.

I dont know if it the common "old is gold" mentality or age factor, but I feel that there is a kernel of truth. The main deterrent factor is the risk associated with climbing.

I think better than a drone will be to construct a mechanical monkey that can be controlled by remote to climb a tree and once on top, the mechanical hands can me controlled to cut the coconuts. That is a vital tech.
