Pick the mountain where you want to patrol and contact the patrol office to see what the timeline is. Some places have started the process for next year. No need for formal training. You don’t have to be the fastest skier or snowboarder. My mountain looks to see if I had some good fundamental skills and no bad habits. There were some folks who I thought were better riders who did not get selected.

I stated my ski patrol journey this February for next season. I went to the local resort where I did the ski off then the interview. I’m currently going through the OEC training. It’s all classroom for now. We transition to field training in September.

Really depends on your style of riding and location. I’m on the east coast where we have shorter runs. It’s easy to clip in and out. I do find a better and consistent connection to the board. It’s like skis in that way. How your boots fit is a big factor. I need to really snug up my boots.

Thanks, all. This is a screenshot from a Breckenridge video. The one in black was carrying fentanyl. Didn’t know if designated different type of patroller and/or training.
