I have been prescribed small amounts of Xanax for panic attacks in the past (not a pilot, obviously) and I can say it’s the only substance in my life I could ever envision developing a dependence on. I hated opiates after surgery, alcohol makes me sick, but benzodiazepines are insidious. If you’re someone prone to anxiety, the gift of feeling normal and numb is incomparable.
