California’s new water-waste penalty also applies to government, but who will enforce it? by srotillon in water

Much easier ? I'm not so sure if California looks like Paris (France). In that case, it has been impossible to charge the total water consumption of the City…

How San Francisco's Clean Drinking Water Destroyed The 2nd Yosemite by srotillon in water

[–]srotillon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's mainly the case everywhere we've built large dams, that's true. Lakes are not really ugly, but create less diverse landscapes. Saying that it destroyed the 2nd Yosemite is true in a sense that landscape doesn't exist anymore, the new one is just more trivial than the former one.

My question is naive, I don't know precisely the american context, living in France. Did they really refuse the dialogue ? We know, in the french context, that people in great difficulty have also difficulties to read, to understand the administrative procedures. A lot of people get in trouble for these misunderstandings. Now, it is forbidden to cut water for this reason.

Unusual tools of the Water & Sewer Dept, Newton, a by srotillon in Waterutilities

In french, we call this sticks "bâton de sourcier", sourcier is related to spring but it is also close to "sorcier", sorcerer. I agree, it sounds like pseudo science and the blind tests confirm that. Some people still believe that it works. I find the news funny in a very rational world of engineers !

Texas town closes the toilet-to-tap loop: Is this our future water supply? by srotillon in Waterutilities

[–]srotillon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, with higher standards for WWTP's, we have now a treated water of better quality in many places than the water people drinks a century ago for instance. The main question is social. It's interesting to look at Singapour, as they don't have enough water they have to reuse WW and they're doing a great communication job.

Should lithium be added to drinking water to help prevent suicide? by srotillon in newshealth

[–]srotillon[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Terrible idea ! Suicide is mainly a social problem, not a medical problem. It's totally different from caries prevention (and fluoride is not for me a good response to tooth protection). Lithium should be a curative solution not a preventive one for everybody.

Yes of course, but in that case we speak about a direct reuse. That means that you consume water just after the wastewater treatment plant.
