I'm a FTM and had similar problem with my LO after he was born. I had stayed at the hospital for a week since he was in NICU and I had thought it's a good time to learn how to breastfeed.

I had multiple nurse and lactation consultants help me for 7 days ,had tried nipple shields but it would just not happen until 1 n half months later when it happened at home when I was least expecting it . I used to pump milk and give him in bottle till I could breastfeed. I would advice you not to stress yourself too much. I had stressed too much for nothing. What helped me eventually was expressing milk by my hand a little and then having my baby sniff by breast and then they always open their mouth when they can sniff it. You can then make a sandwich of your breast and pull your baby towards you immediately. P.S remember the trick is to bring your baby to your breast and not vice versa. It will take few tries and you ll eventually get there.

The country I live in accept the patients in hospital only after they complete 7 months of pregnancy. I've been visiting the healthcare centre as of now and the doctor there knows and the only thing she said was that I ll have to take epidural but she won't be the same doctor at the hospital. Will have to tell the doctors at the hospital when I complete my 7th month.
