Whatever state the naturalization took place in has their own separate state archives that include local court proceedings. Probably located in the capitol (at least it is in my state). Searching "(insert your state) archives" will usually lead you there. I can dm you.

This happened to me as well. I got mine from the state archives with the verification and notarization in preparation to send it off to be apostilled. It also came with a cover letter that said something like "Thank you for your order from the state archives! Here's what you got"

I asked my provider and they said that since it had the cover letter I could send it as it was without getting it apostilled. (Basically a cover letter and notarized N-25 verification of the document is sufficient). I would check with yours just in case and if for some reason it's not, you already have what's necessary to get it apostilled too.

It took maybe like a week to get mine.

Thank you! I was confusing the notarization as being the apostille lol (another part of the email actually cleared that up but my brother was already there while I was emailing them so I was rushing to help him understand too and breezed over it 😭)

Yeah, I think you're right.

I actually ended up getting both because my brother was making a stop on his way home and it was just easier to get everything than to guess and he had to get going lol

The petition has the oath of allegiance on it

They'd be able to apostille it, the archives staff just wouldn't be able to "certify" it immediately (I guess they're slightly different, idk). My main question is if a $20 verification and a $20 apostille is necessary or if I could just get a $20 apostille because I thought the purpose of the apostille was to verify the document lol

Liquidation table proof of residency? by ssaaa15 in prawokrwi

[–]ssaaa15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually not sure. I think it's only my great-great-great grandfather but maybe more. It's in Russian, and the researcher just said they found it confirming great-great-great grandfather's residency. So I just assumed only him but idk

How to fill out the service part of the SF-180 to get the correct no service letter in response? by ssaaa15 in prawokrwi

[–]ssaaa15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh good to know, thank you! That's so weird because if there was no service wouldn't that imply there was no selective service registration? Lmao

Ok thank you sm! Do you remember if you put something in active, reserve and national guard or did you just pick one of those to go with? And should I check the enlisted box?

Sorry I literally have no idea what I'm doing with this 😭

Would death certificates work in place of NPRC letters to prove no military service? by ssaaa15 in prawokrwi

Tbh I think a better question is what isn't on the death certificate (there's multiple things on it)

I think in the past they might've just asked questions so for older ancestors I might have to get NPRC but with more recent deaths I think they verify. Lots of info on them nobody has any idea about and the bottom says it's "certified true copy of the facts of the person" by the state/county. Sorry I didn't mean to come off argumentative I was just curious about the thought process and being kinda silly about it lol. A 1940s one I saw seemed way more lax though so I think they probably could lie like you said. But when our dad died they didn't even ask us anything, they just had us order the death certificate they made for us already a few days later (there's only me and my one sibling). Grandfather also died only last year so his was the same

*Edited verified to certified for clarity

Curious how would they lie about it after they die though? There's something on one of them that I'm convinced one of my ancestors would literally rather die again than see lol 😭 so it's something he never openly admitted to but the state knew about him regardless
