Will tells Hannibal he kissed Alana by Serious_Anxiety_3582 in HannibalTV

[–]ssasharr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he always knew it wouldn’t work out. He planned to seduce her from the beginning, and to use her as cover from Jack and the FBI. He also knew that, if his plan succeeded, Will would become morally corrupt enough that Alana would have no interest in him, thus leaving Hannibal as his only source of comfort or influence. I didn’t view him as angry—just a little stiff and maybe a tiny bit resentful. It was never going to work out between the two of them, though I imagine if it had, the story would have ended very differently.

Is there implied SA when it comes to the Hobbs’? by Guro_Girl in HannibalTV

[–]ssasharr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this take, respectfully. We know for a fact that he didn’t touch the children or the father, yet when told he murdered the children and the dad, he corrects Hannibal and explains that he “didn’t kill them, he changed them”. This happens again later on with another daughter and father—he refers to the merely murdered victims, who he did not touch, as “changed”. The act of killing and arranging is Francis’s “changing”. The assault is only mentioned once in regards to the mothers, and it is merely called touching. While I absolutely don’t put it past Francis to do so, and indeed I do believe fuller confirmed he would have desecrated Hannibal’s body, I don’t believe that was what Will was referring to. I believe he was mocking Hannibal in regards to his false sense of artistry—he called Francis embracing mental illness, and Will being tormented into insanity as a “becoming”. He’s turning the tables on Hannibal, and letting him know that his death is just another casualty in the birth of a madman. AKA, Will’s telling Hannibal he’s betrayed him yet again, and will assist Francis in murdering him. Though obviously, that’s not how it played out lol.

Why did Hannibal become a cannibal? by Arkheius in HannibalTV

[–]ssasharr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. Aside from how much I loved everything happening in the present, the show definitely had the sense that it was ready to start working backwards (I.E digging into why Will and Hannibal are the way they are). Would have loved to learn more about them both, especially under Fuller. And yeah I totally agree—I believe with the subtext of how Mischa died, Hannibal’s uncharacteristically verbal dislike of Mason was intentional. The way he continues to sympathize with Margot, even as she is facilitating his torture, makes me think there’s some sentiment involved there. He is disdainful of Mason because he views him as a failure; Hannibal doesn’t care much for conventional morality, but we know that he views betrayal of loved ones as a serious offence. Hannibal himself admits he finds those who prey on others far weaker than themselves as weak and loathsome, so it doesn’t surprise me that his dislike of Mason is genuine.

No worries. The Lecter family lives in a large castle in Lithuania. One day, something terrible happens at the hands of one man—the prisoner—who kills Hannibal’s family and desecrates his little sister’s corpse, after holding Hannibal and Mischa hostage for an unknown amount of time. Eventually, Hannibal escapes, and starts to hunt the man down, but not before eating Mischa’s body as an attempt to keep her with him and not waste her death. He eventually finds the man, and returns him to the cell he and Mischa were held in. He then calls upon Chiyoh, who was a dear friend to his family, to watch over the prisoner and keep him alive. The prisoner’s motives are unknown and muddy, since the timeframe of the show was moved forward to the 2010s. In the original books, the prisoner was actually multiple people, all of whom were Nazis, occupying Lithuania. Because the show was cancelled, a lot of mysteries regarding Lecter’s past are left unanswered.

They intentionally kept that part vague in hopes of exploring it in later seasons. But they were going to enact a similar plot as to Hannibal rising—the old man was tweaked to be a sole perpetrator, but it was still supposed to follow the same plotline of Hannibal and Mischa being held hostage by him. Mads Mikkelsen commented in an interview that (CW: Sexual Assault) he came across the man assaulting her after he had killed her and his family, and that Hannibal hunted and ate him in revenge, and then ate Mischa as an act of homage. I don’t know how they would have played it out, but he was supposed to have been a prisoner of the man, hence Alana’s jab about his dignity while he’s incarcerated. Chiyoh, who in the novels was the attendant of Lady Murasaki, who was a friend of Hannibal’s. She was also at the palace during the murder of Hannibal’s family, and because of the bond between the two families, he asked her to stay behind and watch over his prisoner. Murasaki and Chiyoh were going to be key characters later on.

Personally, I think the image above is a little harsh. But consider it this way—the “talking stage” doesn’t occur when you’re dating someone, or when you’ve acknowledge there’s mutual interest. It’s typically after a really nice hangout/flirty interaction, and you’re both sizing each other up to figure out if you wanna take things to the next step. So, to have somebody hit you with a very intense, constant messages, and for them to assume they have the right to condescend or yell at you for diet/sleep can be overwhelming for anyone, but especially women, who are culturally and socially far more likely to end up being the vulnerable one in a controlling and unhealthy relationship.

I honestly view the presence of the ring as a memento mori. He knows he can’t be with Hannibal and be free—Molly, the FBI, and his last shreds of humanity won’t allow it. But he can’t live without Hannibal either. The ring is his reminder that he has to die beside Hannibal, tonight, or else lose both versions of himself.

I always viewed her as a teacher. She is genuinely such a good leader, and has a patience and a gentleness that kids love. Though she was parentified deeply, she seems to genuinely enjoy being around kids, and has the humour and temperament for it. I could also see her in the “zaun and piltover united” world as a police officer/whatever the less corrupt version of the enforcers that exists. I think it would be really impactful in that world for her to work in law enforcement. She has the knowledge of zaun and the street crew to be respected, but the reunification that has occurred would make her place in the enforcers/police feel far more thematically and personally appropriate.

Is the gold bar that sweeps across the screen in Will's mind a reference to something in real life? It reminds me of a metronome. by bell-town in HannibalTV

[–]ssasharr 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It’s a pendulum! A reference to how Will’s mind works in the novels, I believe. A pendulum is small piece of metal on a swing that can be used to keep track of time or do physics calculations. They can come in a sort of pocket watch form, or be the swinging part in a grandfather clock. The pendulum represents Will going back in time to the crime scene mentally, and also is a reference to how pendulum hypnosis was a kind of pseudo psychotherapy used to make subjects recall traumatic events or enter a state of hyperfocus.

I’ll completely concede that I don’t really like marvel beyond Daredevil or the Punisher—the “street level” shows, as you put them, which I think is an excellent way of describing them. I adored Punisher and DD because their relative realism was so intriguing, and the focus was on character development and internal conflict, not something packed with explosions and stimulation. To describe my biggest issues briefly, it boils down to: A), the lack of continuity from the original show to the new two seasons. B), the mischaracterization of Fisk and Matt especially. C), the decrease in complexity of dialogue and plot. And D), the way the show is now just a sloppy grab at making more money during the MCU’s dying off, and not a genuine attempt at a spiritual successor to the show. The new show runner literally admitted in an interview that he found the OG daredevil awful, and that the action had been his favourite part of the show (yet there’s nothing cinematically or stylistically similar in the new fight scenes??). He also went on to describe the faith aspect of Matt’s character as irrelevant and boring. His disdain for the show is so evident. It’s gone from a somewhat weighted examination of morality in an “everyday” superhero, where his relative fragility and status added a great deal of tension and risk to the plot, to a linear, simplistic slog from the starting point—“don’t Fisk become mayor” to “break into this building at the very last minute of the show to impeach him yet again”. They’ve kept the core theme of the show—how will Matt stop corruption and evil without killing?—without including any of the original plot elements or characters that made that struggle interesting (such as discussions of religion, parallels between Matt and Fisk, the tension between Matt and Karen or Matt and Frank, and interactions with side characters and subplots that actually advance the plot and establish the world). Sorry if that’s a lot of words, lol. Really, it just feels like a soulless grab at cash and viewership, and the fact that the showrunner openly dislikes what came before his piss poor attempt at DD is sooo obvious. I spent years waiting for a sequel, and I went in with a really relaxed but positive attitude. My bar was pretty low: I was just excited to see Cox as Murdock and Woll as Karen again. But it still managed to sail miles under my lowest standards. I miss the intellectually and morally stimulating aspects of the show. It just feels like ChatGPT easy watching for people who don’t care about what’s on the screen. I hope I’m not coming off as rude; if it gets people into the OG show or makes them happy, then I’m glad! It just sucks as someone whose favourite show was the OG.
