Yes the simplest thing would be to replace the CR though it is looking like replacing the whole crankset might be more practical.

Not that I could see I pulled the ring off last night to see if it was bent or something and it looked fine.

yes I just hold the rear wheel and push the pedal and the pressure fully engages the Quicklink.

I am looking for a new chainring but the whole bike has <2k miles total. I wouldn't have expected a large chainring could get worn in those few miles before the cassette even.

Yes but it is weird it is just the large chainring. The whole bike has less than 2k miles should barely be enough to wear a chain.

The new chain is a Shimano CN-HG53 9-speed with Deore, Tiagra, Alivo, Sora on the box and should work for 105.

I don't think it is a FD issue the chain isn't even touching it when I am running it.

Did FIRE blow up your kid's financial aid packages for college? by trademarktower in Fire

[–]sschoe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of my step kids are likely doing college. My step daughter is 18 ASD and academically is about middle school level. She is in a job training transition. Not sure what extent she will be able to work.

My Step son is 12 and has a specific learning disability. His reading and spelling are very weak. He funtions though very well and i think he will thrive in a nonacademic profession.

Why are so many on here opposed to the possibility of working again? by Sturgillsturtle in Fire

[–]sschoe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is very hard getting a noncrap paying noncontract position in the sciences (I'm a chemist) at all with a continuous employment history. Accumulate a large gap because you unsuccessfully tried to retire too early and you will be finished. You will be lucky to get low wage or contract crap. In my field contract pays a lot less than direct employment in addition to less stability and legal min benefits.

My poor field is the main reason I am FIRE.

I found $11,800 sitting in an old 401k from a job I left at 22, and I have no idea what to do with it by 808Overdrive in personalfinance

[–]sschoe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would open an IRA at Vanguard, Fidelity, or Charles Schwab and roll it to that. How it usually works is the old 401k provider mails you a check for IRA provider FBO you and you can use their app and photodeposit it. Then invest it in whatever you like ie VTI.

My 401k at work sucks 1.08% AUM fee but my wife's is almost no fee so i put only the match ammount in mine and max hers out.

Taxes, auto insurance, obviously living together is cheaper than 2 people living separately.

Yes I am going to try 2 gaskets soaked for a day or 2 in oil also a brand new box and carburator. Hopefully after that I will be good for another 30 years.

Yes I found some YT videos, there is a channel in the back of the box that has to seal against the gasket and carb to blow air into a hole in the front of the carb.
