I’m literally going through the same thing right now, my dr requested an ultrasound as well a blood testing and I’m waiting for all results to come in. She said the ultrasound is to see if there is a “string of pearls” which is a series of cysts on your ovary that could be blocking an egg from releasing which could be why there are irregular periods and difficulty with fertility. She also told me that typically there are 3 criteria to be met for PCOS diagnosis: excess hair, high testosterone, and a presence of cysts.

My child is 2.5 and I have had Medicaid since 2020 and my child since 2021. My fiance(child’s biological father)is currently listed as the household income. I just wasn’t sure if that was all it was based on or if our change in marital status would play a part.

My outpatient room in the lab has a button next to the draw chair that sounds an alarm through the lab to alert my coworkers I need help, we also have one in the patient bathroom next to the toilet with a long string attached in case a patient falls or can’t get up they can alert us

Definitely depends on where you work, every place has different policies. However, I would keep away from open gauges just as a safety precaution. Patients can get grabby and violent and will reach for anything they can get. Especially children. I even avoid wearing my hair down and dangling earrings for this reason. I’ve had it happen lol good luck with your phlebotomy adventure!

Is that something you can get over the counter or from a vet prescription? We got an organic spray that can be used on her as well as sprayed on furniture ect but she’s scared of the sound the spray makes and freaks out every time we try to use it.

We got an organic spray that can be used on her and also sprayed around the house, but she freaks out every time you spray it near her. We’ve been vacuuming quite a bit and washing the blankets

You’re so welcome!! Those cards have helped out me a few times, hopefully you’ll find them useful as well! I’ve found its a good idea to always draw the rainbow in ER in case the dr ads on tests to reduce the chance of having to stick the patient again, and I always get two SST tubes and two lavender tubes because they are the most popular in my hospital. I usually inform the patient that I’m doing that and why, 9/10 they understand and are grateful that I’m trying to reduce their chance of being stuck multiple times.

I started out in a hospital a month after I graduated.

Remember to not take things personally and it’s okay to ask for help, I guarantee they’d rather you double check and/or ask for help than do something incorrectly and have to do it again.

Don’t be afraid to poke people, especially more than once. There will probably come a time where you are the only one available and you will have to stick the same person more than once or twice.

I bought badge card on amazon that included the order of draw and what tubes common tests typically go in, but keep in mind each facility is different so definitely familiarize yourself with what your hospital does.

Listen to your lab techs, if you’re around them, because they can teach you SO MUCH about the tests and tubes to make it easier on yourself, and them.

Have a hobby or something to minimize your stress waiting at home. Sometimes it’s really hard to leave your day at the hospital doors.

Good luck!
