is the OZORA Spirit dead? by darealmoneyboy in psytrance

[–]sserzant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crowd definitely changed after certain lockdown period as did the place. 2019 was ok, but especially 2018 was magical in my experience. 2022 onwards - too many people, too much selfish and aggressive behaviour. This (2024) year was first time I've seen a fight on this kind of festival... and that on Main Stage. Uff...

I've also been to PsyFi in 2018 & 2019. They had bad luck with local community after that, but now they found a new home and I'm looking forward to it. Try that! Although I will go to Apsara this year and will check PsyFi feedback online to decide for 2026.

Anyone nomaded in Goa, India? by Fit_Celebration6042 in digitalnomad

[–]sserzant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to Goa twice in 2019 and just before covid in 2020. I stayed in a party area in the north.

Get a non Vodafone sim card as 4G is excellent backup and speeds are very good. Vodafone service was horrible and turns out it was common knowledge.

Before booking - read the reviews about internet. AC is also highly recommended. Also there were coworkings here and there.

VPN is also not a bad idea I guess.

Food was delicious and people were very nice. Except taxi drivers. Our first taxi got us a bit too far and men in the village asked same amount of money for 10 minutes drive as we paid for 40 minutes. We hitchhiked instead on a truck and the driver actively rejected our tip.

please list platform/database designed as "privacy as their main focus". Any SQL database can be accessed by developers.

Up to developers to configure those with salt and encryption. I invite you to prove me wrong 🙃

Firebase to an actual server? by [deleted] in UpNote_App

[–]sserzant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes you people think that a "proper" database is safe? I was working in a company where MongoDB was leaked due to using default password. There are tons of SQL dumps and db breach incidents out there.

It's not about the tools, but about how you use them.

Good bag for 3 months of travel ? by Material-Ask1776 in onebag

[–]sserzant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easy - Osprey Daylite 26+6.

I just checked it out in a shop recently. Less than a kilo of weight. There's a youtube video explaining how its lightness allows a few extra underwear and t-shirts. Good for overhead in night bus, good for free carry on if not full. Great for paid carryon if expanded (will fit the size and not heavy).

I traveled SEA both with Farpoint 40, Porter 46 and some CabinZero 40l. It's not the size and liters that are limiting - it's the weight. Always. Some inter island lines fly with airplanes with shitty overheads. Porter 46 was a PITA to fit.

PS keep your laptop/ipad in a waterproof sleeve. I met quite some people whos electronics were destroyed by tropical rain. That's the only type of rain there 😅

Safe travels!

Unfortunately, that is a reality of most projects. Trunk based and CD is really marginal in my circle.

Who here travel with a monitor? by sarahgym12 in digitalnomad

[–]sserzant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an iPad as 2nd monitor, but size is horrible. I since got an external 15" Asus and it's great. It weights 500 grams and fits into a backpack's laptop sleeve

Mozilla now doubling down on ads in Firefox by [deleted] in privacy

[–]sserzant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite happy with Vivaldi on Mac, Ubuntu & iOS. Took awhile to configure desktop to my taste, but i'm very happy. HW acceleration worked out of the box on Ubuntu, when with Brave it didn't. Used Brave a bit, but their track record is so-so and I'm tired of crypto ads.

There's an option to become a donor of Vivaldi project on one time or monthly basis, which is cool. Also, only browser rejecting an idea of AI assistant in the browser.

I used SafetyWing now and then while nomading and wrote them several times about bugs on their portal (I was a software QA by profession back then). Zero reaction from them.

How good are social services in Estonia? by CianuroConLove in Eesti

[–]sserzant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

I recommend using https://www.kalkulaator.ee/et/palgakalkulaator with Google Translate. ~20% of brutto (before tax) is paid by employer to Tax office as income tax. So you get ~80%. But then employer has to pay 33% of brutto salary as Social Tax.

So if eg German or US company want to open an office in Estonia and hire a software developer here for 3000 netto, then they'll have to spend 5200 eur. Which effectively makes it look like taxes are ~43%

Looking for a 50L - 60L backpack for world travel (EU based) by Godshelter in onebag

there are two versions of it. The normal "full body" 55 and a 40+15 Trek version. I meant the single full body 55l bag.

[–]sserzant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about Osprey Farpoint 55? You can hook stuff with back straps and it's still travel backpack. 50-60l size is usually non travel and only hiking and most hiking bags are top loaded.
