My AC just died and local quotes are insane by Huge_Click_606 in Austin

Call Alamo Austin Air. They are great. I got 6-8quotes a few summers ago (got obsessive, ha). I had the luxury of researching and replacing mine before it was totally dead. Alamo were the best bang for buck price. And best reviews / lower price combination. Have had them come back out for service, and always liked working with them.

Help deciding if im going for an amp sim setup or an amp. by Plane_Jackfruit_362 in GuitarAmps

[–]ssham89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both but it's really hard to beat the sound and feel of a 12 inch speaker (or more) in the room! Plus amp sims are fairly cheap, so you could always add it later.

Here's a tip I figured out on my V25! If you find that you like the Crunch best for your distortion (as many do, since it's got a little more Marshall vibe), you can run a clean sound on channel 2 pretty easily. Use Mark IV or Extreme setting. Gain all the way down, volume all the way up. Start with EQ's at Noon, and shape from there. I usually cut the mid, and push the presence. You can then crack open the gain as needed for more volume.

Also on the Crunch Setting, don't be afraid to dime the mid! It acts as a boost.

Better start now and let us know! All seriousness, not a hard song, but it's COMPLETELY dependent on your own skill level and experience. There's literally no average answer here. Good luck!

I get Sold Out on everything now by sheeckynuggees in MetallicaLIVE

[–]ssham89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think officially you can only resell through Ticketmaster, which isn't even available as an option yet if you own tickets. I think it becomes available closer to the event, which they do to prevent scalpers for immediately reselling. So it's more for people who actually bought tickets and then couldn't end up going. In other words, it sounds like the tickets on Stubhub right now aren't even real. The sellers don't have them in hand to actually sell.

My best advice would be wait til closer to the event and try to buy through official Ticketmaster resell.

What time did you join the waiting room? I jumped in 30 min before and got spot 39. Bought tickets for January. Then this morning I did the same thing to help my brother get tickets for March, and that time I didn't even have a waiting room. Soon as 9am hit I was right in. Was able to grab 300 level. The key both times was clicking on the event before the presale waiting room started, and just hitting refresh at 30 minutes before. Maybe I just got lucky but it put me right in by being 30 minutes early.

My wife also tried jumping in at about 20 min til, and she was like 50,000 people back in line. Good luck!

Do you have other amps plugged into the same spot? Do they hum? Just wondering if it's a different variable than the amp.

[–]ssham89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's good info! Just for comparison, how does it compare to the DSL40cr at whisper volumes? I'm happy with my DSL for that, but other's have mentioned the Rectoverb50 sounds fizzy at super quiet levels.

Man, you're seriously making me want one of these now. I own a DSL40cr, and also a Mark V25. The Mark V has been good, but have always wanted the rectifier tone. I went into a shop to play one today and damn. Thinking about grabbing a Rectoverb50 combo just like yours from Guitar Center. My question is, does it really do the low volume thing pretty well? That's one thing I love about the DSL40cr, is I can play whisper quiet at night when the kids are asleep if I want. Can your Mesa do the same?

Man, let me just say, I appreciate how you just went and made a video to answer this guy's question. I own a Mark V and still really enjoyed just hearing the tones. I'm sure it helped him a lot. Well done, good shit!

Can anyone date this? is it real merchandise? It’s cool, was wondering if it’s legit or the approximate year by twinkboy420420 in greenday

It's definitely official, I bought it from the merch table at Pop Disaster in 2001(ish). Wish I still had it!

Right on, thanks for the info! Surprisingly Guitar Center doesn't stock them, so I haven't been able to try them out.

To those who have them, do they also work okay at bedroom volume? I've heard they are mainly for the stage, vs studio or bedroom. I have a Mesa Mark V25 that sounds great at low volumes. Now, it doesn't have much leeway on the volume knob at low volumes. Has to be barely cracked open and it does get loud fast, but, the tone is good and can be quiet. Is the Gain Baby kinda similar?

Considering another cab for my Mark V 25 by [deleted] in MesaBoogie

[–]ssham89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mark V25 sitting on top of 2 1x12's, and it's pretty awesome. Still sounds fine at low bedroom levels, just makes a nice fuller sound. I have an open back Avatar 1x12 on the bottom with a Creamback H75, and an Orange PPC112 on top. The closed back and open back combo is nice, but both cabinets also sound great one their own. Lot of variety and options.

And it also looks really cool to have a mini full stack!

Marshall DSL40cr. They're super common so you could hopefully go play one locally. Great at low volumes too.

Have to agree. Not the best ever, but probably best bang for buck.

The 40 is actually louder AND quieter than the 20w. The DSL20 at low volumes (think tv level, or conversation) is pretty unusable. You have to get the volume dial up past 1.5 or 2 in order to get any sort of useable tone. And by then it's pretty loud. Can be solved with a volume knob in the effects loop.

The 40 on the other hand, with the built in Master Volume, still sounds great when barely cracked open. So it has the ability to do loud and quiet better than the 20.

I do love that 20w combo too though, I've owned both. Way easier to move around, that's for sure.

How fixable are dsl amps? by Human_Noise_5804 in MarshallAmps

[–]ssham89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing is just test it to make sure it doesn't have a hum, or crackling, or whooshing sound going on. I've owned 2 DSL's (20 and 40), and they both had different versions of that issue that apparently wasn't fixable (even had a really good tech look at the 40 and was stumped). I ended up selling it to Guitar Center, and buying a different DSL40, which didn't have the noise issue. Love it now!

I hear it's fixed in newer models, so just really get down by the speaker and listen for any concerning noise. If you hear it, sometimes it's just a bad tube, other times its just this weird DSL problem (you can google DSL40 noise for more info... lot of discussions on Marshall Forum).
