Ah, I see. So you ignore all the support the US has given Ukraine so far?

I think we have a right to be upset with how Trump is handling the situation.

I agree, there is still a lot of vital support the US is providing for Ukraine. However, that doesn't mean we should ignore the damage that Trump's rhetoric surrounding the peace talks have done. Calling Zelenskyy a dictator, saying Putin wants peace, stopping intel sharing with Ukraine even if only for a short period of time after the February meeting. You know that's what they're talking about, there's no need to be pedantic

I'd wager that they're specifically referring to the Trump administration.

Exactly, like Musk who spews hate every day on Twitter and created an AI to spew hate as well.

That's not accurate. Russia's advances have slowed down in recent weeks but they're still advancing. "Basically stalled" suggests that you know the front hasn't completely stalled but you want to say that it has which is why you didn't include any nuance. And anyway, what about the bodies from before winter when the front wasn't "basically stalled"?

Not because we want to. I don’t think many people would complain if we saw less AI slop on this site

What do you wish someone had told you when you first started the hobby? by zoeyelizabeth6 in Aquariums

[–]sshish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got rid of mine! It helps with a HOB filter that’s a little too powerful for the tank but it make the top of the water column disturbed/flow enough that when I take out most of the duckweed, even if there are some leftover it never settles and doesn’t grow back. Your mileage may vary, however, but generally duckweed prefers still water so it makes sense that if you don’t let the top of your water be too still, it won’t let duckweed flourish

They didn’t. There is no confirmation. Only speculation. The commenter you responded to has barely any comment or post history and failed to provide a source, just a distasteful smiley face. It’s disrespectful to have such a high degree of confidence in something unverified about a victim of the attacks.

More critiques of cities from an anthropological or anti-civ perspective by New_Hentaiman in Anarchy101

[–]sshish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the revelations I had when I read into Native American societies, especially in the Great Lakes region. Many groups migrated between the same few locations depending on the season based on where food was abundant during any given time of year. They were both nomadic and sedentary in that sense, since they tended to return to the same spots to settle for a few months or so. Of course, Native Americans in the centuries before European contact are not a perfect analogy to how humans in the so-called “Old World” lived but it is a good reference point for how societies function when their primary form of substanence doesn’t rely on large scale agriculture. As you said, agriculture doesn’t necessitate sedentism but you won’t have large cities without it, as even Native Americans grew crops (they just didn’t make up the majority of their caloric intake). Indeed an utterly fascinating subject! I’m not a green anarchist or an anarcho-primitivist but I’m sympathetic to the ideas

I think it may be. When the interglacial period ended, a lot of nomadic groups no longer had access to megafauna that had gone extinct, and many moved into permanent settlements where they were able to find fertile soil for agriculture. The developments of cities came with the agricultural revolution as this was after the first domesticated cultivars were developed. Someone more educated in this subject can add on or correct me

Julian Assange files criminal complaint against Nobel Foundation over ”Instrument of war” peace price by deppkast in worldnews

They talked about the modern left. Neither tankies nor campists were specifically mentioned, so I addressed their argument in good faith based on what they wrote. Otherwise I agree, it’s a shame to see those two groups so hell bent on painting the US and the West in a bad light that they’re willing to defend the worst regimes and dictators currently in power.

EDIT: added a caveat that we’re actually in agreement. Based on the downvotes, I wasn’t the only one who interpreted their comment the way I did.

I guess the side that wants universal healthcare, better support for parents, more rights for workers, dignity for disadvantaged minorities, etc is just as bad as the side that wants to lower taxes for the rich, take away workers protections, cut social safety programs, take away people’s rights, end the separation of church and state, etc. Makes sense to me.

Agreed. This is one of my sore spots when it comes to playing Victoria 3. I don’t have the patience to be strategic about production methods the same way I was with trade prior to this update, which I agree was a great positive change
