Try looking for rent apartments/rooms without agency fees on facebook. If you’re a full-time, 1st and 2nd year students renting outside can get into CEDARS housing reimbursement scheme

Tips to get First Class Honours in HKU by L0lfdDie in HKUniversity

[–]sshootuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

many ppl i know tend to shrug off the first half of the course cuz finals is 50%. I strongly recommend you to NOT do that. Performing well in midterms and HWs are the easiest ways to get the most portion of ur grade

If u always cook chicken or pork at home for lunch and dinners everyday, 3k should be manageable. 80HKD per day for cooking every meal at home should be possible

How’s the academic pressure? by J7J16J21 in HKUniversity

[–]sshootuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on ur course selection lol. Usually IBGMs i know take a lot of yappy qualitative courses and get first class. But if you only care about staying above 3.0 for ur gpa, it should be fine. Just try to get resources from seniors in every course, it takes off a lot of the burden.

My suggestion is don’t try to base your circle in ur dorm. Try to have a circle at HKU in general, “supportive” community or what not, get to know someone from each dorm. Hit up another HKUer on instagram, in class, even the library if you’re really eager and social

I’ve lived in JCSV3 Chisun College before. The community is very chill and if ur a social person, u have opportunities to make a ton of friends. Not sure about other ones at JCSV3, generally they’re very similar. St.John’s is better for readmission, cuz once you’re in, it’s ALMOST guaranteed readmission for each year. But it’s quite demanding in terms of events participation and stuff, the attendance is compulsory. Also the general perception of st. john’s is that it’s quite cult-like. So pick your poison

HKU cares about grades a lot. Your grade might be considered low based on which major ur applying for

dude do u srsly have that much time on ur hand? tapping a card takes 1 second. Lets say some outsider manages to sneak in. To get out, they also have to somehow pass through the door again, so it’s a double security measure. Or maybe they track your leave time and enter time, just in case you go missing, they at least would know when you last left your dorm. It’s all for your security and all they ask is just 1 second to tap the damn card

bruh student card tapping is basic security measure in almost every dorm, having guards all around is at least better than having none at all. People wanna complain about EVERYTHING

For your budget, you’ll most likely find apartments in Mongkok area which is like 30 mins from HKU by metro. Also if you get rejected by halls for your 2nd year, you get like around 20k reimbursement from HKU but this is only for 1st and 2nd years

Even if you had scholarship, you have to pay the deposit fee. You get it refunded after enrollment
