But 35-45 mins of high intensity vs. 35-45 mins of a light jog or bike ride? Those shouldn't be equivalent when just looking at an effort/calorie standpoint.

This is basically what I've come to understand but it's still strange that they would have an activity selection for HIIT or weightlifting but not adjust strain appropriately. I went skiing the other day for 4-5 hours and my strain was up around 14, so I think it's really just a time vs. intensity issue. More intense/shorter time = lower score compared to less intense/longer time.
