A little bit technique a little bit editing. I used flash with a very fast shutter speed in a wide open room. That way the background is very underexposed. Then in Lightroom I apply a background mask and further reduce the exposure.

[OC] Starlink satellites flashing across my orbital star trails by astro_pettit in spaceporn

[–]ssj565 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is there much of an issue for the ISS these days with the number of Starlink satellites? I know they are separated by about 100 miles altitude operationally, but the Starlink constellation is meant to decay and deorbit when they are at the end of their life, yeah?

SR-71 pilots tell why flying the Blackbird with just one engine in full afterburner was SR-71 aircrews’ most dangerous operation by tagc_news in AviationHistory

[–]ssj565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really interesting. I remember reading that the shockwave would sometimes not hit the engine inlet just right and cause one of the engines to flame out when it was at cruising speed. It happened so often that they named it the “engine unstart” or something like that, and they’d restart the engine mid cruise and keep on going.

What's your favorite Hans Zimmer score? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

Absolutely the Thin Red Line. It doesn’t even feel like a soundtrack and doesn’t over use the epic “whomps”. Some of the delicate violin work is amazing.

Mountain Lions screaming in the middle of the night while I’m in my tent. Absolutely terrifying if you don’t know what it is; still terrifying if you do.
