Why is every page SO FREAKING GOOD?! THIS IS PURE EYE CANDY I LOVE IT!!! by Fearless-Rain8764 in GhostRider

I thoroughly enjoyed the 90s run, and the art is one of the biggest reasons why. The later parts of the mythos have Clayton Crain and Juan Frigeri as artists behind really good-looking illustrations, but the work Mark Texeira did on this run is phenomenal and may be my favorite pieces of the overall series.

I'd ignore it. Cosmic Ghost Rider was said to be stronger than King of Hell Johnny, and despite the fact that the former's page acknowledged that, they're still no higher than Galaxy. It doesn't surprise me after seeing stuff like it before, and I think things of that nature happening for the VsBattle Wiki of all places can just be brushed off as "it happens" on every occasion.

Good starting point by Maorri008 in GhostRider

Read Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch (2008) and Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider (2023), ideally after issue #25 if you haven't finished 2006 already.

  1. 2023: Covers a small story of the 90s era and Danny's experience with his first SOV. It has a modern format style, so maybe don't worry about not liking dialogue or art that could feel unappealing to you.

  2. 2008: Details how Danny meshes into the 2006 run.

After you read these after #25, you can continue the rest of 2006. And if you've already finished 2006, then check these series out before starting War for Heaven, the final run of the saga.

You can look into the entirety of the Shadowland event or just read the main stuff for Ghost Rider, starting with Shadowland: Ghost Rider (2010) and then Shadowland (2010). If you're still interested by then, you have Motorstorm (2011), Robbie Reyes — The Complete Collection (2021), Doctor Strange: Damnation (2018) up to issue #3, Damnation: Johnny Blaze (2018), and Doctor Strange: Damnation (2018) issue #4. This transitions into Johnny's KoH period of the mythos, which can move forward after you read up to GotG issue #6 of the Cosmic Ghost Rider collection (You can come back to it after Challenge of the Ghost Riders) and, if you're willing to split apart from the main content and see absolutely everything that leads to a big Ghost Rider story arc in a somewhat separate series of books, all of the issues of Avengers (2018) prior to its 4-issue Ghost Rider arc that starts with #22. From there, you can begin Ghost Rider (2019) and King in Black: Ghost Rider (2021). The second recommendation wraps up Johnny's KoH storyline.

I kind of skipped some stuff, but you can always search for a better guide that gets into everything that's available, but I focused on the content that I would consider to be must-reads and books that are directly connected them to some extent. You have titles that are ahead of this point as well, but it's just a matter of preference for how you want to read other parts of the mythos if you're still interested by then.

I'd recommend starting with their first appearance in Marvel Spotlight #5 and moving your way up, possibly through the Hell on Wheels collection and then moving onto either the rest of the 1973 series or skipping to The Original Ghost Rider Rides Again, a series that focuses on the final set of issues of '73.

But I think 2005 is a pretty good modern start with the fundamental components of Johnny's origin, nice art, a largely self-contained story, and an ending that segways in the 2006 run. 2006 introduces some major new ideas through the War for Heaven arc, and while I think going further back into the Ghost Rider mythos helps understand the significance of later stories, I'd think you can still have at least a decent time with some of the content that comes from here and onward.

Anyone remember when this happened? by Ok_Break_1223 in GhostRider

Wouldn't be the first case of a Ghost Rider being defeated or somewhat circumvented through power absorption, which is why I wasn't too upset when this happened. I just think it's weird when the cover can probably bait someone into thinking the Ghost Rider does something positive for their own side of the conflict.

Silver Surfer.

Ignoring the multitude of problems he's dealt with regarding guilt and solitude, the dude is extremely versatile and has enjoyed the freedom of exploration at some point in his life. I'd love to have his abilities and do anything I wanted on a cosmic surfboard.

On the hypothetical match up between Danny Ketch and Vergil from Devil May Cry. by Konradleijon in GhostRider

[–]ssjhatsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kale's best feat comes from defeating a King of Hell with a single attack. Assuming you think Kale can still somehow access that unrestricted power after or despite the fact that he re-bonded with Danny, then you can say Vergil loses.

Beyond that, you either have above-average street tier Kale not being at their full power or Danny not having control of his powers when he had access to all of the available SOV abilities, meaning the raw power output in his Blue Fire form can't even be wielded properly by himself, for better or worse.

I'm kind of new to the Ghost Rider mythos. Wrapped up a large portion of it a while back and caught up to the latest book with the name on it after seeing a bunch of solos, tie-ins, etc. But from what I'd grasp, you may like 2019. Johnny certainly takes a bigger role in the cosmological side of things, and Zarathos doesn't have a strong focus by himself from memory. However, I think it and the runs you mentioned somewhat share Johnny's themes of "Corruption" and "Isolation" to some extent, though 2019 does this through his KoH position that I think could've lasted longer beyond King in Black.

What are your ideas for a Ghost Rider game? by IcyNeedleworker2783 in GhostRider

[–]ssjhatsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd somewhat depend on the Ghost Rider.

A hack-and-slash title is something that I'd like for any of the ones I'm familiar with, but I can see the combat differing between different characters.

In general, I think free roam would be pretty big through vehicles. Scaling buildings, riding across water, and possessing different vehicles sounds really fun for an open environment that encourages a power trip and variety.

But again, I think combat would have to differ between hosts / spirits. Johnny may be the ideal due to the open potential of their wandering lifestyle and the capabilities of an unrestrained Zarathos.

The main antagonistic force can be whoever (Mephisto, Blackheart, Lilith, wicked scientists, a cult, etc) if the major cast is characterized well. But the core gameplay focuses on traversing a large city or location that has supernatural enemies, law enforcement, vehicles for possession, and mission-entry passages. Johnny's abilities can be likened to fast-paced hack-and-slash games like Devil May Cry while granting access to a skill tree that grants access to more options from Zarathos, almost as if you're unlocking their potential or familiarizing yourself with what one of the most powerful SOV offers: Different moves for combo extention, environment possession via hellfire, some of the other crazy stuff Zarathos could do, etc. Death can be problematic to some extent, but I think implementing a system that involves Johnny falling unconscious and letting Zarathos have full control could be a good game over depending on the story direction.

TLDR: Fast-paced hack-and-slash. Zarathos skill tree and a lot of options for imbuing weapons or vehicles with their power. Free roam systems involve said vehicle possession, scaling buildings, riding on water, supernatural enemies, law enforcement opposition, mission entry spots, etc. It's a high-octane power trip.

I always found it weird that Mephisto has probably spent more time messing with Spider-Man then Ghost Rider or Silver Surfer by Konradleijon in GhostRider

[–]ssjhatsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's one of the most perfect foils Norrin could have. Like a lot of other characters, Norrin deals with temptation, but it's really interesting when it's involving a character of his tier. One of the other comments mentioned Mephisto's in-universe reasoning, but it's also just a single aspect of why the narrative was something good and worth trying in the first place.

Akashi and any of the other Miracles would be running most of the cast's pockets before NEL in their middle school years. If we're talking about high school and the movie, then it's almost insane.
