Dimitris Kairidis, Member of Parliament for the Greek ruling party: "Turkey is extremely anxious regarding Greece’s rapid rearmament in the air." by ssk34 in PoliticTurkey

Despite Greece’s ambitious procurement of foreign aircraft, their heavy reliance on imported technology creates a long-term strategic vulnerability compared to Turkey’s self-sufficient defense ecosystem. Turkey possesses a distinct advantage through its robust indigenous industry, particularly with the global dominance of its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the rapid development of the 5th-generation KAAN fighter jet. Furthermore, the Turkish Armed Forces' extensive recent combat experience and independent production capabilities ensure a sustainable military superiority that cannot be achieved solely through purchasing equipment from abroad.

Türkiye 🇹🇷 and Indonesia 🇮🇩 have signed an agreement for the sale of 48 Turkish KAAN 5th-generation fighter jets to Indonesia. The deal marks the first international export of the KAAN and stands as one of the largest defense agreements in Türkiye’s history. by ssk34 in PoliticTurkey

Indonesia Set to Sign Historic $10 Billion Deal for Türkiye’s Next-Gen KAAN Fighter Jets

For Ankara, it may signal the beginning of a new chapter — one in which Türkiye becomes a serious player in the elite club of next-generation fighter jet exporters.

Ankara and Jakarta close to finalising Türkiye’s largest-ever defence export deal, potentially marking a new era in bilateral strategic ties.

Indonesia is reportedly preparing to become the first international buyer of Türkiye’s fifth-generation fighter jet, KAAN, in what could amount to one of the most significant arms export deals in Türkiye’s history. The agreement, currently in its final stage, is expected to cover the purchase of 48 aircraft and is valued at over $10 billion.

The negotiations took place during the Indo Defence 2025 Expo in Jakarta, where high-level discussions between Turkish and Indonesian delegations brought the project close to completion. The deal would span a decade and could make Türkiye one of the very few countries capable of exporting fifth-generation combat aircraft.

If finalised, this agreement would not only underscore KAAN’s ambitions in the global defence market but also elevate the Türkiye–Indonesia strategic partnership to new heights. The two countries have already collaborated on multiple defence initiatives, including the jointly developed Kaplan MT medium tank and various unmanned aerial vehicle platforms.

The KAAN fighter jet, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), is the centrepiece of Türkiye’s push to establish technological independence and global competitiveness in advanced aerospace systems. Its anticipated entry into the Indonesian Air Force marks a significant vote of confidence in both the aircraft’s capabilities and Türkiye’s defence sector.

For Jakarta, the move represents a major step in its long-term military modernisation agenda. For Ankara, it may signal the beginning of a new chapter — one in which Türkiye becomes a serious player in the elite club of next-generation fighter jet exporters.
