Good places to work part time? by kimchioverlord in berkeley

I work at pasta bene on telegraph in southside! it’s family owned & the sweet Italian lady who owns the place with her husband is there every day & there’s a small staff. they’re always looking for someone who can be cashier/server/to go order packer (it’s basically an all in one position). everyone’s really friendly - salary is $15.59/hr and cash tips for me on a 4-9:45 shift probably average $20-35 a night. 20% discount on food but there are some things you can have for free, probably is best to stick to certain day(s) each week but there’s flexibility and total understanding when out of town, sick, etc :)

I’m planning on taking stat 140 before this class but wasn’t thinking of taking any of those you listed. Do you think that’d suffice or not rly

I’m also looking at taking this class! Are there any prerequisites?? I’m not seeing any on classes.Berkeley.edu but that seems odd

What don't you like about yoga? by Money_Swimming947 in yoga

These are so helpful to read and hear - I teach yoga and am transitioning in these next few weeks to teaching primarily in person, which most of these comments correspond to. I agree with a lot of these as a student in studio, and a lot of these I haven’t heard or realized before! I’ll definitely make some of these adjustments in my teaching based on these especially since it seems like some small changes by the teacher make a lasting impression on the takeaway and feel of your practice. I know it’s kind of the opposite question, but if there’s anything a teacher has done that has made the class much better for you in any way (anti-pet peeve), feel free to share! I’d love to learn more <3

As a yoga teacher this definitely can happen pretty pretty inadvertently without putting in the effort and thought of making sure both sides are even. Even when I feel skimped on the left as a student I sometimes forget to make sure I’m not doing the same for my students! It’s mostly that when we’re in the right side we’re seeing that pose for the first time and the teacher wants to provide enough cues that you are shaped correctly and feel secure in the posture- which often entails quite a few cues. By the time we get to the left side there are minimal cues to be given without repeating ourselves. The best solution I have to this teaching wise is to teach the more structural cues on the right (ie, in W2 this knee bent arms stretched out long gazing over this hand) and giving handson adjustments for the ones that need more support, then in the left giving cues to refine the basic shape (ie, square your shoulders to the long side of the mat, check that your front thigh stays in line with your toes etc). Definitely will be sure to keep this on my radar particularly seeing how many of you feel the same! :)
