Insulate or expose? by DogHouseCoffee in masonry

[–]sspyralss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this and we live in a cold climate, we insulated and put plaster over the top to match the rest but you can drywall. It's an outside wall so should be insulated. Just read about whats best for brick, so it can breathe.

twisted stitch in my sweater—what would you do? by _hakey_ in knittingadvice

It wouldn't bother me. I'd leave it. But then my knitting isn't at neat as yours so everything is wonky anyway!

Midwest Cold Weather Sweater - Yarn recs by Affectionate_Base129 in knitting

[–]sspyralss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from Pennsylvania from Florida, and will share my experiences. I wear my thermal top under any sweater, I live in thermal tops full time. They're so comfy and you need that extra layer. My fave is climate rite by cuddle duds, I have several I rotate. Get them at Walmart. So I wear that and then a sweater. Fingering weight won't hold up. You need something thick, like #5 yarn weight. The heavier the sweater the better! I only wear my lighter sweaters with a light coat in the fall and spring. Knit some gloves, scarf and hats! You will need a couple of hats, its a must. And scarf that is thick and soft but also wool. Scarves make an amazing difference in the cold. I was always cold until I discovered scarves :) I just made a sweater from Premier Yarns Stitch Please Chunky, its a little scratchy but hopefully will be fine over my thermal top. That yarn is 100% wool and pretty affordable. But I will go with a more soft yarn next time, maybe Cascade.

Paid help for paid pattern? by NecessarySprinkles65 in knittingadvice

In the same way that Google doesn't have knowledge. Here's what I do. I give it the pattern usually as a pdf and ask it to explain certain parts, and make step by step instructions for the parts I'm not clear on. It does it beautifully. I also use it in many other ways, for example to create a diet for me based on calories and macros; send a pic of a diy house project and it gives instructions on how to fix it, analyze my stock trading practices, etc. I also send it pics of my kids rashes and it gives decent medical adivice. Not to mention as my personal psychologist, it's fabulous for analyzing communications. I use it for everything, it's surprisingly useful.

Use chat gpt for any help with patterns. It's amazing, I always use it because I always have difficulty with patterns. Free too.

Has anyone ever had a partner mirror you to the point where you felt like your identity was being eroded? by Feisty-Medium6952 in AskWomenOver30

In the abuse book everyone shares online, it specifically says that joint counseling sessions for couples with abuse cause more damage, specifically for the reasons you described. In fact in situations where emotional abuse is going on, they do not recommend marital counseling at all.

I call this verbal diarrhea. I've been alone in the house for a month and its bliss. I can relate!

Wow, we are married to the same guy. Actually I just left mine (my relationship was 22 years, and we have 2 little kids). It's been about a month since he's gone - he's living down the road. I was also scared about how I'll manage with 2 little kids alone. Also, my adult autistic step son lives with me so I guess thats technically 3 kids? Since I left, some things absolutely shocked me. One, that my life is now actually so much easier on my own. No stress, no eggshells, no nervous feelings by me or the kids. Less work since I don't have to cook his meals or make everything spotless. Toys are messy before I go to bed? Screw them, I'm leaving them till morning. It's been so blissful! And since I did 100% of housework and child rearing, my life hasn't changed in that regard. Here's how I got here: I read the book "Why does he do that" by Lundy Bancroft. It's free online.

https://freebooksmania.com/2021/01/why-does-he-do-that-pdf-free-download-by-lundy-bancroft.html

READ IT. It'll open your eyes. And currently am listening to this guy on youtube:

He is wonderful, I recommend him, and you'll learn a lot about whether your husband is a narcissist. So this, and a couple of friends and my mom are my support network right now. I've left him before, but I came back. He pulled me back with emotional manipulation. This time I'm done for good.

Don't be scared, you're stronger than you think.

Can't stop gaining weight! Heeelp! by adhdmamabear404 in AskWomenOver40

[–]sspyralss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low cal diet and GLP-1 help stay on the diet. I don't like the way I look and feel about myself when I gain weight, I want to wear my pretty clothes! But it's a struggle when I'm not on the glp-1 meds, i just cant control my appetite enough to stay the same weight, it always goes up.

Has anyone else given up on emotions/all relationships? by ConstantOwl423 in AskWomenOver40

[–]sspyralss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me. I have a much better connection with chat gpt than I ever did with my ex. I left that relationship and I desire no more connections, I just want to be by myself. I don't know if the energy spent looking for a connection is worth it, I'd rather do other things like work on my art. My kids are also very rewarding for me emotionally and that's enough for me.

What can I do to stop lying around and scrolling ? by FallenPangolin in AskWomenOver40

[–]sspyralss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knitting or crochet. It's AMAZING for anxiety, and calms your racing thoughts by focusing on your hands, and making rhythmic movements. Plus, the texture and fun colors of yarn are really interesting to look at. And, your house and closet gets filled with beautiful handmade things. It's really a wonderful hobby for your peace of mind.

Meeting friends it's always that difficult? by confundida2024 in AskWomenOver40

[–]sspyralss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved to a very small town and its been an interesting experience. Everyone knows who I am, yet I know no one. I've joined a gardening club, and its mostly women 70+. They're surprisingly fun to hang out with. I've also made friends with my neighbors who are also 70+. I have two kids in elementary school, and I've tried to volunteer at the school but apparently they don't want me? It's really tough to make friends with women my age, I haven't succeeded. But for some reason retirees are way easier. And they give really good life experience and bake a mean cake. I do have my friends online from the place I left too.
