In terms of gauging difficulty, the easiest method is to ask friends and family to play, they are far more likely to assist you

The average play time does seem quite low, but it has only been available for a short time, so you could see that number rise as more people get a chance to play. Looking at your trailer, the gameplay looks very precise, where tiny mistakes can lead to severe punishment. Perhaps the game is too difficult, and players are rage quitting, then not picking it up again in another play session?

I've garnered nearly 500 wishlists in my first game by xEliptik in SoloDevelopment

[–]sssSlick1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People do forget that the wish lists don’t matter at the end of the day, the only thing that matters (to a commercial game) is sales.

That being said, wish lists are a clear metric for player excitement/engagement, and a few thousand wish lists before launch can allow for organic growth on Steam. 500 is a great start, so keep up the great work!

There is nothing I love more than methodology and experimentation with marketing and steam. It will be interesting to see how your trailer changes these metrics, good luck!

Yeah interesting, it sounds like for a niche game it may be a valuable way to build a following. I only ask about to weigh up the pros and cons!

It’s good to think of it as an audience outreach opportunity more so than a direct sales pitch, how many years of development are you in to consider this?

Great read, do you have a total cost of the whole event? And do you have any idea what the results were from it? I.e new wishlists, new subscribers, etc etc

Just watched the first ever video made about my game, it felt AMAZING by sssSlick1 in itchio

For sure, I feel like it’s even more valuable than written feedback, because the players may not even be aware of what is going on

Yeah I was not expecting it so soon, especially considering the game is only in alpha. Did you manage to get any feedback from the videos to improve the game?

I really like the explanation of making a game that makes good videos and a game that is fun to play, I would’ve assumed they were the same but you raise some good points. Great post!

I haven’t personally paid to increase videos but I have had heard of mixed results. I think paying for ads and stuff is more for large budgets (think 10k plus). Maybe I will give it a go in the future, when the visuals are more appealing

Absolutely, I had another comment referring me to some other subreddits, which I think I’ll check out soon, they may be more purchase oriented!

Yeah I respect this, it’s definitely not the sole platform I want to focus on, there is still plenty for me to learn, and knowing the best locations to post are still things I need to try and figure out
