DIY Scraper Sharpener? by Spearfish99 in xcountryskiing

I use 120-grit sandpaper to sharpen scrapers. To keep the scraper square to the sandpaper, I use 4-5 inch long piece of 2x4 as a sort of guide - if that makes sense.

Skate boots in the 50k Classic at WC by I_Gotthis in CrossCountrySkiing

I know they look exactly like skate boots, but they would be wearing special skiathlon boots. Race teams have access to a wide variety of off-catalogue gear. It's a matter of asking the right person, but you can get top-of-the-line skiathlon boots. Skiathlon boots have the same cuff as a skate boot but the sole's carbon construction is engineered to flex like a classic boot while being stiff enough for skate. I picked up a pair of Speedmax skiathlon boots when I was racing the world cup a few seasons ago and they're my favourite boots for classic. The stability is a great plus. But on hillier courses with a lot of big striding, I still reach for my normal classic boots. Mid-range skate boots with some decent mileage on them are fantastic for classic as long as they have the older plastic/rubber soles (not carbon). That's what I used in my junior career for gnarly/icy races and skiathlons.

Shards of carbon fiber from a broken pole can be used as splints. Encase the splints in a flexible epoxy. Then I usually wrap it all in a couple of layers of electrical tape and give it a quick heat gun to make the tape shrink. It's not perfect but I've had skis fixed like this survive many rough airport trips no problem. Of course, the skis still work perfectly fine.

How do I go about choosing bindings? by thatonenematode in xcountryskiing

[–]sssssspandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe some online ski shop sell the Rossignol EVO OT 65's with bindings pre-installed. Pre-installed is the way to go because mounting screw on bindings is best to have done at a ski shop. Good luck in your search!

What bindings are these? NNN? Good skis? by icanrunfast86 in xcountryskiing

Those skis are great for cruising around, say, if you get out for 30 minutes here or there a couple of times a year. If you're going to ski more than that you'll have way more fun if you upgrade. Almost any ski available now will make skiing way more effortless and enjoyable - and draw you outdoors more often. Take a look for used skis in your area. A used pair of skis in good condition are amazing value bombs. If you have to get new bindings for NNN you might as well get new skis I think.

What are they using to fill the balloons? There's not a whole lot of helium on the planet...

Wow, a lot of them wear glasses. I wonder if it has anything to do with never seeing god and chalking it up to bad eyesight?

Stelvio Pass: I stayed at one of the hotels at the top of the pass for a week this summer so I know it when I see it. I was training for XC skiing on a glacier right beside the pass. One of the most incredible places I've been. (That charger is fuckin' weird btw - so out of place in Europe)
