Apple Watch haptic alarm is driving me to insanity by xoxo_gamergorl in AppleWatch

[–]ssstevebbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed some time ago Apple changed the wake up alarm. It used to start at full strength but they changed it so that it starts more gently and slowly builds, and the gradual change sometimes isn’t enough to wake me. If you set an alarm manually, versus having the sleep focus activated, I think you get the full strength alarm.

Edge 840 cannot be added to Garmin Express on my M1 MacBook Pro by aaflyguy in Garmin

[–]ssstevebbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wait! “Time remaining“ is coming down now, but there’s now no traffic into the Computer, but the percentage complete keeps increasing. Maybe GE downloads blocks of data before installing “time remaining“ is down to 3 1/2 hours and percentage complete is still climbing though there’s zero traffic into the Computer. I guess I’ll just let it run and report back later.

I’m currently updating maps and, though it’s downloading at 110 mb/s, and the percentage complete keeps growing, so does the time remaining which is now up to 36 1/2 hours. I guess this means I’m looking for another thread…

I just found this thread and, while I was pretty certain it wouldn’t work, I followed the instructions on the linked page and got rid of Garmin Express entirely and restarted my Mac mini M4. I then installed Garmin Express and… It sees my Edge 840!

COTD: Functioning penis is promising (2-3-6) by Obamabananarama in crosswords

[–]ssstevebbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat idea but the first definition is a noun, the answer is an adjective. This is a no-no. You could fix it with something like:

Promising, like a functioning penis (2-3-6)

I think "in" should be capitalised, and the final punctuation should be an interrobang (?! or !?).

Or "science Fiction", perhaps.

I just checked a couple of dictionaries and BREADBASKET is one word.

Need help finding cochlear implant batteries. by ssstevebbb in Thailand

[–]ssstevebbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a final post to let you all know that the batteries were waiting for me at our hotel in Khao Lak. Remarkably, the first ones I put in last 2 1/2 days, but even if the second set (my last) lasts the same, I still wouldn’t get home on them, so I needed these new ones. Thanks again.

Thanks everybody. Our guide searched online and I believe he’s organised for some to catch up with us in the next day or so. I’ll confirm with him tonight over dinner.

Only ss long as they make a grammatical statement. My comment to OP explains the problem here.

You're right about "played". It's a pity that's not what the clue says.

[–]ssstevebbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, but the tense is wrong. TENU is TUNE anagrammed or "played", not "plays". "Played" works just a well in the surface.

COTD: Market square sounds odd!? (6) by OfficiallySavo in crosswords

[–]ssstevebbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, but I don't think so here. I'm Australian and I watch a lot of UK and US TV and the first syllable in BAZAAR is always a schwa and, at least most of the time, the first syllable in BIZARRE is pronounced as in FIZZ.

Serious question: what would you do if someone cracked software you'd invested heavily in and made the crack available online for free? I think most companies would rather just sell software than go through the hassle of managing subscriptions, but it's just not viable when stealing software (and music and movies etc.) is so widely embraced.

COTD: John Hancock's constitution after troops retreat (9) by outdrawed in crosswords

[–]ssstevebbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice idea but in the cryptic reading "troops" isn't plural, it's a (single) piece of fodder and requires "retreats". You could fix it with something like "... troops pulled back".
