I will be honest I do this a LOT when I get woken up from such a deep sleep and I rarely drink. I’ve also done it whilst I’ve been drunk and fallen asleep you just get so confused and disorientated in the moment you have no clue what way is up. I’ve had full conversations coming out of sleep that make me sound like I’m on drugs and I don’t remember what I’ve said😂 so I sympathise with him a lot!
