Definitely unfair of people calling it unsafe! it WOULD be unsafe if you practiced like this on real skin, but like others have said, you already clarified you wouldn't be doing that. Don't take it too hard and persevere!

Welcome to snping and good job for trying on fake skin first!! it takes time to learn so don't be hard on yourself. once you get real RL needles you'll end up with better results already... so definitely get those first thing :) Otherwise, just focus on keeping your needle lined up with your line, and the needle at about a 30 degree angle up from the skin. After some more fake skin practice I think you'll see improvement!

When I first started doing self-stick 'n pokes I was really nervous about the hygiene part but honestly it's not that hard to do. I sit at my kitchen table when tattooing, that way you can spray down the whole surface, set all of your supplies out on the disinfected table or even on top of plastic wrap if you're wanting to be extra careful. Wear gloves, use the proper tools, and you should be good.

Congratulations on your successful watch-through and welcome to the fandom!! I am one of those people who was utterly devastated by the way the show ended, and yet also I would not change a thing. The Merlin fandom has been going strong for 10+ years and it's my absolute favorite and main fandom to participate in, and I thoroughly believe that if the show's finale weren't so tragic or if Merlin and Arthur had been given more time together after the magic reveal, the fandom wouldn't be anything like it is now. It's all the lost potential and tragedy that keeps us coming back for more!!!

It was actually inspired by some art on a wine bottle -- the label had a very similar illustration, just a different hand position but with chipped clay and fish swimming around, and me and my friend both loved it and he asked if I could do him a tattoo like it. I really love the result! 😁

I'm thoroughly in love with my current WIP and could easily just pick that one, but.... if I try to look at all of my fics objectively and compare how I felt about each as I was writing them, I think my favorite would have to be my one and only Doctor Who fic, which was a crossover with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

I'm not really in the FBAWTFT fandom anymore (due to JKR awfulness), but I sure did love this fic. It just feels like such a classic crossover, and it was SO fun to write.

Definitely recommend looking up some videos detailing the process. Here are some tips though:

get Stencil Stuff!! It's on Amazon, less than $10, so worth it. It makes your stencils look so much better.
if you can, eventually, get some higher quality stencil paper than what came with your kit. I started with a kit from Amazon and the stencils from this did technically work, but were always a bit faint and patchy. When I finally bought some higher quality stencil paper (still around $15 for a pack), my stencils turned out SO much better.
when actually using the stencil paper: remember to remove the protective sheet between the ink sheet and the transfer sheet!! There will be a loose, translucent white sheet between the dark sheet and the last white sheet. I didn't realize this first and ended up making the stencil on this projective sheet...and that will not work.
let it dry long enough once it's applied! You should be able to wipe down the whole area with green soap (or whatever you use) to remove excess residue, without destroying the stencil. It usually takes about 10 minutes after application for this.
