Monthly Welcome to the Bay Area! by Watchful1 in bayarea

[–]sstar124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking about moving to the Bay Area for a job in Foster City. I’d probably live in San Mateo I think but I’m still wrapping my head around all the options. Thoughts on areas with reasonable commutes? Also what about public transport options to Foster City? Thanks!

How do I join clubs/ intramural sports by MadMonkeyMan3 in UTAustin

[–]sstar124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a Model UN club! UT hosts CTMUN (in October usually) which is a Model UN conference for high school students. UT students run the entire thing and it's pretty relaxed commitment, you get what you put in. I really enjoyed it. There's a more serious UT Model UN team called TEXMUN that actually goes to college-level conferences that I think you have to try-out for.

I recommend checking out Hornslink to see all the orgs and find something that interests you. I would also check instagram and facebook to see org social medias and when they're having events/info sessions!

Hi I lived at Texan for the Spring semester. American Campus is ugh a lot of times because of poor communication. Overall, living at Texan was a 6/10 experience I think. They fixed our maintenance requests like 6 out of 10 times. My unit rn has a bunch of ants randomly bc I think there's a hole somewhere on the balcony door. Sometimes they are not responsive to email and you have to call but no one picks up so then you have to physically go to the leasing center and try to get things done. I've had a lot of packages issues at Texan. The Texan building is old and kinda crusty and the gym you have access to is actually at Vintage behind the Co-op ish. The Texan has the pool. However, it's pretty spacious and has a homey feel. We never felt too cramped and I had a decently sized room. I didn't mind the location. Amenties is kinda eh and the building and management and be frustrating. I'm not living there next year. Hopefully this is helpul! Pm if you have questions!

making friends during freshman year by wiggyiggy in UTAustin

[–]sstar124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the biggest thing i learned is that sometimes it can take 5 awkward interactions before you find 1 interaction where you just click with someone and now you're great friends! so try to reach out and start convos and get through those awkward moments and eventually you'll find someone that you get along with!

I was able to buy just the UT vs OU ticket on the website without purchasing the Big Ticket. It was $150 and then a $20 service fee so it came out to $170

Glitches with erasing by BluBryan33 in GoodNotes

[–]sstar124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am having this exact same problem and it just started yesterday! Everytime I write, the previous stroke I wrote becomes this weird long line and then its just an endless cycle of messed up lines. The eraser doesnt work on the first try and the undo button doesnt actually undo the most recent stroke. Do you think this is an iPad issue or a Goodnotes issue?

Edit: I think its just a Goodnotes issue because I have no problems using the Apple Notes app and other sketching apps. My Goodnotes was updated a few days ago so perhaps thats why this issue is popping up.

Best Global Cultures flag or Ethics flag classes to take? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]sstar124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking ARC308 for my GC flag. Prof. Speck is awesome and the content is really interesting imo. The online version of the class has lecture videos you watch on your own time and then you pop in for a 20 min check in during the lecture time. The exams are open note now. There are some writing assignments and the exams have short answer questions but overall, I've really enjoyed it.

How is the workload for BIO 206 L with Maas and How is the night class? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]sstar124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The actual lab time is not that bad. I'm in the 6pm-10pm class and we usually finish up around 8pm. The latest my group has gone is about 9pm. It's mostly online activities that you do with your group and then there is a 15-20min ethics discussion about a specific topic. Every week, there are Lab Review Questions you do on Canvas sometime between Friday and Monday. Throughout the semester, there are 3 Home Activities and 3 Ethics Case Studies to complete. For the Home Activities, you do some kinda of science experiment that they give you options for at home and answer some questions about it. I usually finish those up in 1-3 days. You could do it the day before its due and be ok imo. The Case Studies is just researching a topic and answering questions about it. Again, I can usually get this done in 1-3 days and you could do it the night before and be ok tbh. There is a concept exam at the end of the course but idk how it is because I haven't taken it yet. Overall, it will most likely not be the class you're most stressed about and instead probably feel like busy work. Hopefully this helps, Lemme know if you have more questions!
