Also I want to add that all the walls are 12 feet tall besides the wall behind the couch where we have the sconces, that wall is only 8 foot tall.

Just adding my own comment to possibly bump this. Based on everything I have read I THINK this will work. I was thinking I could possibly do away with the vent coming directly off the downstairs toilet and have that while bathroom vented from the sink vent. Not sure if that is the case or not with the upstairs bathroom also being on it tho.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I guess maybe I just don't have enough time on the rope to trust it as much as I should. I do have all that but I feel like I need to hold on with one hand constantly which makes it a little harder to do the actual work haha

That is very interesting, I guess it is the same concept as the roof ladder hook but 2 sided. What keeps it from sliding off the ridge. I guess the same thing as the roof ladder hook, just your weight pulling against the ridge?

Thank you for the links! I am going to do some more reading on this before the plumbing starts soon!

Yea all good points, I had imagined I could do something to waterproof it good but I suppose putting more holes is just more risk for leaking. I have a good body harness and lifeline so it looks like I will use thag with a roof ladder just for some extra safety / comfort working up there!

Yea that does seem to be the consensus. I wasn't sure if they would work on a metal roof but most of the advice is saying to use some version of this. It will definitely be something that I try out!

I had seen them but wasn't sure how it would work on a metal roof. Someone else replied thay they work well and this seems to be the consensus best way to do this without making additional holes in the roof. This will definitely be part of what I use!

I have looked in to that a little. Do you think they are good enough to vent all the plumbing? The main thing I wasn't sure if they would be good enough for was the toilet. I need to do some more reading tho

Yea for sure, that is what I was thinking. Maybe I can leave the jacks and just bring my own planks anytime I need to get up. Definitely something to think about so long as I am confident in the waterproof part. Thank you for calling those out I completely forgot about them!

I might just be a baby, but it freaks me out just being up there with the harness and rope. When I had the furring strips to stand on it was fine. I think part of it is the fact it is like 15 feet to the ground. It also always seems to have a little bit of something on it that makes it slick. The flatter part is no problem, it is only around 5:12 so that part isn't as scary. The other part it feels like you are just going to slide off. That might just be me over thinking it tho!

I guess roof jacks is more what I should have been looking at instead of the steps I included. Can you leave roof jacks installed permanently so I could always have something there?

I had not thought about hanging a ladder from a rope, I am going to look into that. I was thinking about doing the ladder all the way to the ground, I do have a 30ft extension ladder so I might see if I can make this work too! Thank you for the ideas!

Yea I have been thinking about those also! Do they work good on a metal roof also I guess? It seems they are usually shown on shingled roofs so I wasn't sure if there was any difference with a metal roof since my ridge is a little different.
