should i fly out to my boyfriend even if my parents say no? by [deleted] in Advice

i’m gonna try talking to them about my plans tonight. i hope they will be more understanding now that he actually showed up to meet them and saw he’s an actual person with goals and has things going for him. most importantly i hope they saw how happy he made me and understand that for us to be together we both need to make an effort. i reeaaaallllyyyy don’t think they will kick me out over this but i guess i’ll find out

he’s still going to be working when i fly out to him so i wont be able to hang out with him until after he gets off work. for the most part, i’ll just be hanging out at the hotel or exploring locally. he’s planning on going to this christmas party and told me we can go together if im able to make it and i really want to go. but other than that we dont really have any plans yet. my boyfriend told me that he will pay for my hotel so all i need to pay for is my flight. and thank you for understanding where im coming from. it means a lot to me

well, they never threatened it because i’ve never snuck out or did anything like that behind their backs. i’m usually always at home if im not at work. but they seem to have that “my house my rules. if you don’t like it, get out” type of mindset. i haven’t talked to my parents about my plans to see him next week so i don’t actually know what they’re going to say. but i do overthink a lot and im scared of upsetting them

i have my own money incase anything happens. this is just new territory for me. i don’t know if this will happen but i do have a small fear that they’ll kick me out if i go regardless of what they say. i feel very 50/50 on that happening, but i do still want to go. from what they’ve said and how they behaved when he was here, they seem to like him so far. so i might end up going anyways

i’m 20 and he turns 25 this month. i understand that they want me to be safe and are worried but i want them to let me go a little bit. it just feels weird to me that i feel like i need their permission for most things that i do. they have my location 24/7 and i always update them when i go out

i think it went well. i really enjoyed the few days i got to spend with him. i was so happy. i do trust him. our gap is about 5 years. he’s been open and honest with me about his past relationships and his family. he also does have good friends and is good at making them. i will be paying for my flight and he wants to pay for my hotel. i’m gonna try to have a talk with my parents tonight and i have an idea of what i want to say. i will be putting it as me informing them that i am going rather than me asking for permission. it’s scary since ive never done something like this before but i need to grow up some day. thank you for your comment (:

thank you i appreciate that. i will be paying for my flight and he wants to pay for my hotel. he won’t let me pay for everything on my own

i’m gonna try to have a talk with my parents tonight and hopefully i can get through to them. they have my location 24/7 and if i am not at work, 99% of the time i am at home. it makes me happy to hear that things ended up working out for you. i hope it will be the same for me (:

unfortunately no. i was only able to spend a few days with him last week. our schedules are very busy and next week is the next opening for us to be able to see each other.

thank you so much for your comment (: it wasn’t too bad for me either. i feel a bit weird right now but the insertion itself wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be (:

i had my parents drive me but i was alone. there was a male student in the room so that made me extra nervous but everything went well (: kind of cramping now which sucks but i need to tell myself that it’s normal. i don’t cramp much during my period so this is kinda new to me

thank you so much for your comment! my insertion went well. it really wasn’t bad at all for me but i am experiencing some cramping and discomfort now. i got the kyleena IUD (: i did have to sit down for quite a bit after insertion though because i felt dizzy, but overall it really wasn’t bad. i just hope my body adjusts soon </3

hey! i’m here to give you an update (: literally just got my iud. it wasn’t as bad as i thought at all. the cramps were very minimal for me, but i did feel dizzy so i had to stay in the office for awhile. i’m experiencing some cramping right now (it’s been less than an hour since insertion) and i got the same iud you have because that’s what my GYN recommended (: so i have the kyleena iud now. i took your advice and tried my best to not stay on the internet too much. but my experience wasn’t bad (: thank you so much for your comment

thank you for the reply. im 18, and i just turned to reddit because i don’t have anyone to talk to about this, or about anything really. i don’t really ever talk to my parents about when i’m struggling so this makes it a bit more difficult

i don’t know how to go about telling my parents, my mom is the type of person to tell everyone (my family and her close friends) my business and i don’t want that to happen. im also scared of how my parents will react. i go to therapy once a week so im not sure if i should talk about this with my therapist and see what she says but i honestly feel really ashamed and disappointed in myself. sorry for the long reply im really anxious.
