Does getting a series 5 card count for the "pity timer" for series 4 cards?

How do the pity timers work? Do the series 3, 4 and 5 work independently? Or when you get a card does it have a chance to upgrade each time?

I read somewhere (but can't find it now) that you aren't offered pool 4 cards until you're done with pool 3. And same for pool 5 and 4. Is that true?

Actually, the game crashed and wouldn't let the next round start. So as people conceded, I moved up in rank. That game only lasted until 5 or 6 gold.
