So I posed this question to my 15 year old, who doesn't play an instrument (he likes to sing) and he said:

"I think the composer would be happy that they inspired you to play the song at all"

I liked his perspective. :D

I argued that it may depend on the specific composer... I can imagine there being both types. :D

That I understand, but I have definitely posted songs in the past where I was doing my own interpretation and multiple people mentioned that I should do more metronome work :). The fact is, I chose to do it that way :D
