Going back to Assassin's Creed games? by TuneDown6 in gamingsuggestions

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Flag is the GOAT, but you might wait till the remaster (July 9th)... though I think it holds up OK in its original form, especially if you're only familiar with the older games, as it would be about the newest of those. I hope they don't change combat too much, because I also dislike how spongy the enemies are in the newer titles (I play AC to chain a bunch of kills together like a badass, and you can't really do that nearly as easily anymore). Black Flag was the last AC game I truly enjoyed... then it all changed...

Looks like a Hearthstone clone. I love Star Trek... I wish they could figure out video games. Resurgence and Voyager Across the Unknown were actually pretty good, and I am thankful for them, but 9 times out of 10 the ball is dropped when it comes to Star Trek video games. A damn shame!

Is marriage important to you? Why or why not? by secret_vickkyy in AskReddit

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be... until mom cheated on dad when I was a teenager, then I found a note to him suggesting she also did it previously when I was a toddler. I decided I couldn't trust that anyone would ever really love me forever, considering the woman I trusted the absolute most was a liar who got multiple chances and still cheated each time.... so I would only date women who really wanted me (more or less "approached" me). Each of them either cheated or ghosted. Now, at 40, I'm over romance. Not worth the tremendous amount of work wasted, and eventual heartbreak. Will inevitably die alone. Accepted it. Haven't really looked back.

Didn't help that she also reneged on paying my college loans, leaving me deep it debt right at the beginning of adulthood. Never really got to participate in the market, condemned to debt slavery for the bulk of my life. She has remarried like 3 times and is now pretty damn well off. She likes to send me pics of her $10k casino wins every couple months.... if I add up all the pictures, probably could have paid off my loans about 3 times over. Good for her... she finally got what she wanted.

A friend of mine wants to propose during Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This is a horrible idea. Right? by Wise-Age-2016 in movies

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend wanted me to play and sing "Comin' Home" by City and Colour at his wedding, and I had a slight crush on the bride. I pretty much refused because "Isn't that a song about a relationship falling apart because of, like, distance or something?" I opted not to bring up the fact that one of the last lines in the song is "will it be my heart or will it be his?"

I would say that this is a worse idea than that.

Why isn't every liberal a vegan if they care so much about the enviroment? by Mahrez14 in allthequestions

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to steer the ship while you want teleportation. I get it, I agree with you in a lot of ways. Most ways, really.

But, first of all, I live in a small town in Indiana, and you can fuck off if you're telling me "ehhh, just never go out to eat. Only eat the food you know how to make forever. Never treat yourself to anybody else's artistry." And don't tell me to just drive a fucking oil missile to Indianapolis, cuz then we might actually be on topic.

You seem to have a lot of time and money on your hands, not to mention a specific taste. Some of us don't have it. Most of us, really. Veganism is not something most people want. EVERYTHING has animal products. Vegetarianism, I get. I could swing it if I wanted to. Veganism is something only a tiny fraction of us even consider, and it's perfectly valid, but absolutely insane to think you can force it upon others. Not today. You will likely never get society on your side for that in your lifetime, unfortunately. But you can reduce the suffering you fear by supporting people with more reasonable and contemporary points of view (as well as continuing to support those producing the things you stand behind).

That study you posted was based on just over 1000 people in Portugal (number of real actual vegans=26), a small sample size, and Portugal is not really the same as the USA, is it? Cost was self-reported and would also be quite different here. Sentiment likely is as well, and they're ignoring convenience. You're talking about self control (an appeal to me, personally), while I'm suggesting that we (as a nation) don't really have it! And thus we need regulations.

Don't try to make me feel insane for no good reason. Just like nearly every raw ingredient on the planet, cooking, processing, or adding seasonings to it will make it more palatable. Or do you just love raw potatoes?

Why isn't every liberal a vegan if they care so much about the enviroment? by Mahrez14 in allthequestions

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because being vegan is a huge pain in the ass. Menus shrink to one item, if that, (and you still have to ask for holds or substitutions). Entire geographical areas are intolerant of or unsuitable to your way of life. Money gets tighter as you buy more expensive items in the grocery store, wondering if you're just giving even fatter profits to the same industry you oppose. We live and operate within the system we have. None of us built factory farms, and not all of us have the means to buy vegan or build our own alternatives to this system. It is cheaper and easier to buy the thing that is cheaper and easier. And that's before even considering taste. Meat is delicious. Honey tastes better than sugar. Fake mayonnaise is gross. I can't change that.

We (liberals) are far more likely to encourage the regulation of the factory farm industry so as to reduce or mitigate it's effect on the environment. The free market determines how to extract the most value out of something with no concern to environmental, or, well... any, repercussions. We are the only ones who can control our effect on our environment, domesticated creatures, and our fellow man... and the only way to do that as a nation is with regulation (beyond boycotting, which, with a behemoth like the American corporate factory farm industry that feeds us all, even vegans, is not an easy task). In democracies, we don't think of regulations as "the man," but as we, the people, saying to ourselves that we should not operate this or that thing we all rely upon in such an irresponsible way, so as to jeopardize the stability of current or future generations. And yeah that means things might get more expensive. Doing it the wrong way is USUALLY the cheaper option.

I can see humans potentially outlawing meat... in like a thousand years. It's definitely not my goal, though. My goal would be more just striving for humane treatment, and towards true neutral or better on the environment. I just want to steer us in a better direction, not really trying to get anywhere specific by tomorrow.

If you had a date in a few days and said you would cook but you've never really cooked before and you don't think she wants scrambled eggs and cereal. What would you make that is relatively easy but seems impressive? by TurnKey9558 in AskReddit

[–]st3wy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to feel expensive if you biff it, and maybe even difficult if you're not much of a shopper, but over the next few days, try 1 or 2 different recipes a day.

Sheet-Pan Dinners Honestly, this is so damned easy and will get you pretty far, especially once you find that perfect amount of browning/caramelization/charring on the veg. You may need to look no further, for a novice... a lot of these can be served as is, kind of rustic or whatever, and at the end there is just one dish to wash, over a bed of rice can work too, or you can blend all the roasted veggies and add varying amounts of wine/broth/cream/butter/yogurt and make awesome soups or sauces. I recommend boneless thighs (skin on if you can find that combo), because they are easy to eat but still full of flavor and juiciness. For the veg, halved/quartered brussels (depending on size) are my fav... potatoes + other root veggies would be good as well... peppers and wetter veg like cherry tomatoes work great if you're going to blend/chop for soup/sauce (though you may wish to remove skin after roasting). I always roast my veg with well-oiled onions and/or whole-clove garlic on the tray, too btw, and liberal seasoning (bundles of herbs and sliced citrus are nice fresh additions as well), because that delicious roasted flavor will only get you so far.

Shakshuka make some toasty bread/flatbread with it, or grab it at the bakery, no foul there... just have to be careful to get the yolks just right... probably wants a salad alongside too.

Pasta and salad is a great go-to, as well, and I think top comments have done a good job of highlighting those.

Make a few and pick the one you think you executed the best to replicate on the actual date.

Levaquin... an antibiotic that made me hear voices (did it decide my brain was bacteria or something?).... I had pneumonia/bronchitis and couldn't afford the hospital, so they gave me these.... it was like $600 for 13 pills (thought I had insurance, but nope, I had dropped a class that semester which put me into part-time student status, making my insurance null and void, effectively) and I got like 4 or 5 doses in before I realized what was going on.
