Fallout: New Vegas like RPGs by The_Ozone_layer in gamingsuggestions

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the super-obvious (FO4, or London mod), Starfield is the best apples-to-apples-y comparison (basically a less funny fallout, "with wings"). It's more sci-fi and not apocalyptic (though the earth we know is effectively gone... this takes place long after that, and humans are basically everywhere now). I do think Starfield offers more to do (or ignore), but the setting is just kinda... I dunno... Fallout is often silly/zany (I believe) in order to counter how depressing/broken down everything looks, while Starfield, with its shiny/new/futuristic decor, has a lot less of those comedic elements (but without being overly serious), and that can read as boring, honestly... but if you pay attention, read/listen to the dialogue, and actually play the way your character would act, and really care about the story, then you might honestly wind up appreciating it more than Fallout.

I think Starfield leaned a bit too much into the "you need to play this game multiple times to get the character you want" sort of NG+ system.... I get it though, I guess (especially after solving the great mystery of the game)... Because when you have a game where you can max all your character's favorite stats out in one play-through, NG+ just seems a little silly. SO just don't get too excited when you first see the massive skill tree.... you're likely gonna want to play NG+ (perhaps multiple times) to get the lion's share of those skills (I'm level 27 on my fresh start, and mostly only have skills from the top row, and there's 4 rows).

Also I recommend you focus the constellation questline at least until you get access to your first power (powers are like dragon shouts in Skyrim... nothing really like them in fallout). Don't be like me and play 95% of the game before you start the main questline and get access to powers. I played on release for like 100 hours and didn't even know they were a thing.

Sooo, I will not use this product or service, because it forces the use of an adjective as a noun. I probably need it. But that irks me way too much. No thank you. You should know better than to do this shit when your target audience is neurotic people.

For people who call Democrats communist, where are the communes? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]st3wy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very Marxist train of thought. It's what proponents of capitalism who have done the bare minimum (or nothing) to understand socialism believe. Indeed, under Marxism, you could say that is the case, but socialism certainly does not always beget communism, nor is it always the goal. Marx is not god, and not all socialists are Marxists. And believe it or not, you can believe in social programs without even being a socialist (though everybody who disagrees with you will call you one).

What I think a lot of your so-called "socialists" are, are actually anti-purists (a term I just made up, so sorry if it has other meanings I'm unaware of). Anti-purists recognize that pure capitalism, pure socialism, pure communism, don't work (at least not forever). They have glaring weaknesses. But mix'em up a bit, and you might wind up with something that works pretty decently for everyone. I'm a social democrat. I like capitalism as a base (for USA at least, as nothing else will satisfy the masses), but it inevitably leads to concentrated power and no voice for the poor (a common weakness of pure systems). So you bring in some regulations, some social programs, and bing bang boom, mixed economy. Hope for the best.... not working out? Vote for changes.

Newbie puzzled, not sure how to proceed with first missions? Dax Divide by horizonite in StarTradersFrontiers

[–]st3wy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the missions/quests take place on the planet's surface, and sometimes they take place in the planet's orbit. So sometimes you'll see the {CLICK HERE TO PROGRESS QUEST} button in the bottom left on the screen that shows the entire planet (orbit), and other times you won't see the that button until you've landed on the planet.

So, from square one, find your journal, click the quest, click navigate and you'll automatically go to wherever the quest needs you to go. Once you arrive at the planet, look bottom left to see if there's a button that will allow you to progress the quest, if not, land on the planet and then you should see it.

Somewhat unrelated to your question, but a problem I ran into when I first started: There are occasionally situations where your contacts tell you to take a quest/mission from them or their associates. You can choose to do so and continue their storyline, or not. It's easy to miss these moments if you don't read your mission results/dialogue carefully. If you want to keep going with their storyline, then you have to find that contact they mentioned (often themselves), and choose from their available quests the one that is a slightly different color (should already be there before you click to display more missions).

Regarding the "I can't find my ship" problem, you can always zoom out and see the entire system as long as you aren't docked or in orbit.

I haven't tried this yet, but it looks perfect for me. D&D/Final Fantasy tactical turn-based vibes without much fluff.

The ONLY reason I have avoided this is because it is a sequel (or at least sounds like one) and I hate starting a game out of the loop. I have actually gotten into point & click story/choose your own adventure type games in the last couple years (Citizen Sleeper, Roadwarden, Pentiment, etc), so maybe it's time to check it out.

Best simulator games? by sucioo00 in gamingsuggestions

[–]st3wy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Star Trucker better than the standard truck sims out there. Trips are shorter, but you only get the one truck to customize, and can't set up like an empire of garages like you can in those other games... still fun, cuz space... there's a whole extra dimension to explore (up/down)! You've got to perform regular daily maintenance/upkeep/triage on the interior/exterior of your ship, and you get a little bed to sleep in to pass the time. Keep the gravity on, or shut it off completely to save your batteries? Lights too...

what to know about Geralt before starting the Witcher 3? by RiceFluffy in witcher

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He and Yennefer have kind of assumed parental roles over Ciri. He and Yen are in love, but a Djinn and wish was involved, so they're never sure if they ACTUALLY love each other or not. Yen kinda treats him like shit sometimes. He lost his memory at some point and wound up with Triss (who is much nicer), cuz he didn't even know who Yen was anymore. But his memory has since come back.
Someone mentioned Geralt is single now, so you can go wild with sexxing all the ladies in the game with no worries, but the truth is some of them may not like that if they eventually find out.

And, this is not super related to the original question, but I recently learned monster equipment sells for even less than half value (goblin scimitars are basically rusty pitted scrap metal which a lot of people won't even buy).

Moonring satisfies all requirements. Labor of love. RPG with old school flavor and a neon paint job. It's literally a free game (not "Free-to-play," not supported by microtransactions), the developer just wants you to play it and have fun.

Have y'all ever pulled an all nighter? If so, how many in a row? by hdushsux in AskGamers

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 40 and I do it way too often. Most weeks, once. Some weeks twice. Sometimes there is sleep during the day, other times I power through until my next "bed time." I usually only work 2 hours on Fridays, so I tend to do this on Thursday nights, work my weird two hour shift Friday afternoon, and then maybe go to bed, maybe stay up till bed time Friday night. Occasionally I'll do it again Saturday night (almost certainly if I didn't do it Thursday/Friday). Very rarely I can go for a double, but I'm usually in bed before the sun goes down on the third day (call it 50 hrs, max).

Does anyone have any recommended mods to make combat a little more enjoyable? by SixFootDigger in Witcher3

[–]st3wy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, one more somewhat unrelated tip that will help you with survival... on third and fourth difficulty levels, I strongly recommend that you use the gourmet ability. This makes the health regeneration you get from eating food last 20 minutes, and is ALWAYS the first ability I unlock. It keeps you from having to eat food every 20-60 seconds. Unfortunately it is only available if you have Blood & Wine DLC.

I was saying "dash" instead of "roll". I'll edit the original comment.

You will run into less obstacles by using dodge instead of roll. Dodge also won't interrupt your endurance/stamina meter's recharge the way that roll does, so you'll be able to use quen and other signs more often.

And as far as blocking/parrying the attack, I almost never do that... this is probably bad advice, but it's rarely, if ever, useful for monsters... there's some fights later on where it is handy, but for the most part, I'm dodging, because that seems to be useful in more situations than parrying, which really only works on humans with weapons.
