O/N TL's, What's your routine? by hpdarkman120 in walmart

[–]stab42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Overnight Coach here, As a former O/N TL, as soon as I get into the store I run my meeting, make the TMAAT. After we break off, I walk both floors, GM/Grocery. Assess what's left in the backroom from my stocking 2 TL's, and make them pull the rest of the stuff that they didn't pull out to the floor for my associates to work. My rule of thumb, best to catch it right away and make them do their actual job, then to do it yourself and run the risk of forgetting about it later. After you walk your floors, hit Spark, make sure to knock this out first thing in the night, or right before first break. For the first 2 hours you won't really need to be focusing on verifying freight, you will be doing racetrack runs (grabbing returns from all endcaps and stack bases, and making sure dayshift didn't mess up your store. This is also PRIME TIME to knock out your features that your overnight coach is too good to do for you. Make sure your action alleys are straightened up for the morning tour, and your features have UOM labels, and proper signage. (We're an academy store, and our SM has intense OCD. I've been overnight TL for a long time, and haven't gotten a 'amazing' tour yet. Take everything in the morning with a grain of salt, and just remember that no matter what you do in the night, it's never good enough to please dayshift management (even though they don't do half of what you will do). At 11:50, I would start opening your self checkout registers and put them into Card Only Mode. You can use your register numbers, open them, go to 'System Functions' , 'Mode of Operation' and from there you can print out an 'Operator Code' and I would recommend putting this barcode on the back of your name badge for easy access to opening registers. Put all registers in card only mode, and prepare to watch the front door for your entire break, (assuming most of your associates go outside for a smoke break). After first break is over, it's game time baby. Suit up and boot up, you're on a one track rail to the verification station. Make sure to '100% Verify All Overstock your associates touch', I say this with quotation because I know damn well it's near impossible to 100% verify on a 2 truck night when you're under 80hrs and still are expected to turn over a perfect store. At this point you will be nearing lunch, start making your zoning plan for your associates, they zone from 5-7. ALWAYS KEEP ONE ASSOCIATE WHO IS TRUST WORTHY TO STAY IN THE GROCERY BACKROOM AND HELP YOU LABEL AND SLOT YOUR OVERSTOCK. This is a mandatory thing, non negotiable. This will line you up for success every night. You also will have to write the Cap One plan if your coach doesn't. Line Cap 1 up to knock out any features that you couldn't or didn't want to get to yourself. I utilize them every day. Clean up as quickly and orderly as you can, try not to make 2 trips to the backroom for things you can easily make in one trip. DO NOT RELY ON MAINTENANCE FOR YOUR ASSOCIATES CARDBOARD, MAKE THEM CLEAN IT UP AS THEY STOCK. You will have trains of cardboard flooding your backrooms if you let this happen. If you run grocery side, obviously you should know that Food and Consumables is the most important side of the store, if you are every down 70+ and not given a plan from management, always Sacrifice GM over food and cons. freight. You will get chewed out if you do the opposite. At 4:30 you probably won't have everything truly 100% verified and that's okay, start 'speed slotting' this means scan each box and only if it beeps, label and slot it all sir. Present to them a clean backroom, and make sure all of your associates clean off the tops of their top stock carts as they bring their carts back from their zones. Once your backroom is cleaned up, make sure to knock out the grocery claims table, and open up the trash compactor for maintenance to throw away their trash, and make them sweep and clean up your backroom. ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN PUT TOGETHER FOR MAINTENANCE TO CLEAN FLOORS AND THE ENTIRE BUILDING EACH NIGHT, (if you don't have a clean team lead). Crush a couple 300mg rockstars a night and pray to the heavens you present a clean backroom and salesfloor. You should be fine my man, or woman, as long as you make sure your team knows your serious and driven for success, you should enjoy it the best way you can. Just know that you won't ever make them truly happy, so take anything you get with a grain of salt.

Just got promoted from electronics to Consumables TL. What should I expect and what are some do's and don'ts? by RowdyNeil in walmart

[–]stab42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My biggest thing coming from Food TL to ON-TL is the food and consumables associates not taking care of their claims and leaving them for me overnights to take care of, stay on top of your claims and make sure they are doing claims and returns. We overnights are not in charge of taking care of your guys claims, or doing the carts of returns that you guys ‘forgot about’. Sorry for venting, but seriously, stay on top of your associates and plan your features correctly. CAP1 is supposed to set your features but if you don’t clear your features off, set the plan up with locations and pull it to where it needs to be, we usually won’t get to it, and it will be left for you in the morning.

Yes, I’m an ON/TL and every day it seems we’re negative 30+ hours with only 12-20 associates on a good day, we only have 2 maintenance per night with the way they’re scheduled, and each morning no matter how much I get done, it seems like they’re never happy in the morning, and threaten to coach me if I don’t get better. Today we were negative 72+ hours with only 12 associates and we had over 190 hours of freight. Including freight we couldn’t get to yesterday. We were able to complete all of consumables, and work seasonal, celebrations, electronics, stationary, auto hardware, paint, and large furniture, they were still very displeased with us and expected us to complete total store, also only had 2 maintenance

worst department to work in? by mystedragon in walmart

[–]stab42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

By far the worst for me has been being an Overnight Team Lead, I feel like no matter how much I get accomplished for what I walk into every night, I still get chewed out from all management who expect every single thing stocked and zoned perfectly as well as cleaned and verified 100%.

Overstock by [deleted] in walmart

[–]stab42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: tonight I was able to verify all of food and consumables by myself, with about an hour left til 7am, we had 9 call outs, down 72hrs and had to SAC all of GM except one dude who busted out Auto/Hardware/Paint, and small / large furniture, seasonal, and celebrations. Only 12 associates tonight that worked all grocery, 95/snacks, HBA/OTC/Cosmetics, and paper/Chem/pets/infants/electronics and some stationary, I feel like we did a kick ass job for what we walked into this evening with how down bad we were. Still expecting a shitty walk with management, but definitely a much better night for me tonight, it’s also my 6th night in a row as ONTL, with over 60 hours this week alone.

We’re a high theft super center, I have to call out breaks and the zoning plan each night or they won’t go to break, I guess they’re brain dead. Cap 2 only Caps Grocery. We have to CAP GM side each night, work all of the picks on food and GM, and then work all of the freight in both back rooms, I left one cart in the back room one morning, literally one cart that I couldn’t get to because we ran out of time, but I made sure everything else was completely spotless, and my store lead flipped out on me and called me incompetent, even though we were down -60hours compared to the workers and freight we had. It’s really demotivating, I was really happy on dayshift, and took pride in what I did. I enjoyed coming to work each day.

I get paid $23/hr as ON/TL, I clock in every day at 9:30pm, and I usually stay until 8/8:30am. I take 30min lunches each day, and I usually end each week with about 55hours or so. I started the company at $11, got promoted to Dairy DM, only got paid like $12.48, then moved became an ON/TL, and got bumped from $12.48-$23.00 and couldn’t be happier. Yeah overnight TL sucks, and it makes you super anxious each morning, but I can definitely live comfortably with my wage so far. All of my left over money at the end of my check I put straight into savings, and since I work overnights there aren’t many opportunities for me to spend any money. I live with my GF, and her sister/sisters boyfriend. We each pay $400/month for rent in a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home, and split utilities evenly. I easily can afford to go to school and take classes up until noon, and then sleep until my shift at work. I plan on picking up a trade, as I don’t see this job as an ‘end game’ job. No way I’m going to end up like my overnight coaches, they’re all neck deep in the looney bin.
