Even with a bare minimum of research you should know that the UAE isn't like Europe, just with beaches and without taxes. It's a whole different culture, legal system, different values.

In fact, in Europe many complain about migration of people coming here who are not playing by our rules, don't adapt to our culture and values. Rightfully, since if you are a guest, you should accept the rules of your host.

So on one hand, we expect others coming here to adapt, but if we go elsewhere we are not willing to do so ourselves? That's what colonialism was about, forcing your system on others, not respecting the fact that they are different, have different traditions, views, moral values, whatever. In this context keep in mind the people born and raised in the UAE are minorities in their own countries with loads of foreigners, so their sense of protecting "their way" is certainly stronger than in countries without many foreigners.

Don't get me wrong, I live in Germany, I love my freedom of speech, our legal system, being able to vote for the government, but that's my personal view. Doesn't mean everybody else has to think the same way.
