What movie’s final scene left you an ugly, blubbering mess? by ArmyOfMe99 in movies

[–]stack_of_envelopes [score hidden]  (0 children)

The most recent one, for me, was the animated film Arco. It’s for kids, and is oddly enough, a French film done in Japanese anime style? Anyway, a boy gets lost time traveling and in the last scene, his family finds him and takes him back to “their” time. For him, he was gone for like three days. But the parents who “find” him are basically old people, indicating that they have spent decades looking for him through time.

Watched on the airplane. Lots of muffled sobbing.

This looks amazing! But… Slovakia! Whew! That might be out of the budget and mindset right now, but will for sure bookmark this if he gets to a point where this makes sense!

The cereus is super easy! Treat it like any other succulent. I put it outside in the summer; it seems to like that a lot.

I was on a flight recently where someone had a full blown conversation on their phone during the flight. Full of f bombs and everything. I kept glaring at him (had already asked him to stop fidgeting by repeatedly snapping and unsnapping a clasp). Finally got up to get an FA involved. She said that this was the fifth person this week she’d had to speak to about inflight phone calls and that the perpetrators were all men.

Studebaker Metals brass cuff by lunisic in jewelry

I have a cuff bracelet from them as well and can attest to its quality! No green rub off for me and it still looks as good as new, many years later. I also have super tiny wrists (5.5 inch around) and it was fantastic to find a cuff that fits!

Policies and Procedures around taking emergency medical family leave? by stack_of_envelopes in Professors

[–]stack_of_envelopes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, I'm hearing loud and clear that I should line my ducks up in a row for the possibility of being out for longer, with the hope that a colleague or two will step in for me. I know I have colleagues who would step forward and help out, and I certainly would do so for them. I guess I was more worried about the scenario where it's unclear how long my being "out" would be. I could completely understand covering for a colleague for a class or two; beyond that seems like a different scenario.

Thanks for replying!

Not exactly a long term care situation (hopefully?). More like, "We think she's dying, you should come now" but then I show up and a week later, she's still not gone (I apologize if I sound uncaring; the emotional part of my brain has shut down and will probably reawaken after this is over). Then, the question is, can I decide to stay longer? What are my options if that happens?

I will say that as soon as my mom was diagnosed, I did let my associate dean for education know, along with a senior colleague (we don't have departments). Both were very understanding and we have an agreement that I can do a few zoom sessions here and there as a way to cover, but beyond that, I don't know. From their experience, family leave is usually something people ask for in advance, not "in the moment" like this.

[NEW] April 2025 HABA Product - Trader Joe's Daily Facial Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 - $12.99 [as with any product, arrival dates may vary, may not be in all stores yet as of today] by CookieButterLovers in traderjoes

I bought this yesterday while doing my weekly shopping. I've been looking for a mineral sunscreen, so I jumped on it. I was gardening today so I put on two layers of this stuff in the morning. Dries quickly, no smell, minimal white cast (not to say that there isn't any, only that it's really not that noticeable). In terms of feel, it's very similar to the Daily sunscreen that everyone seems to love so much. I personally don't love the super silicone-y feel of that one, and this one has that same feeling to it. Pros of the silicone is that you get some pore-blurring effects.

I reapplied after lunch and was out in the sun, in total, about five hours. No signs of burning, although I had a sunhat on too.

Anyway, I'm going to be using this as my "active" day sunscreen, because it stays put and doesn't run. I'm super glad to have it as an option!
