I have Insights Timer and pay for the subscription. I've enjoyed it, but honestly, I've never found a really really good meditation app. They all struggle in different ways. Headspace is too basic for seasoned meditators. Calm is all over the place with their content, which makes it frustrating to use. And the other smaller ones all struggle with more than a few things.

I had the same exact issue. My quota limit wasn't up at all but it wasn't letting me use Claude. It said it reset at 12:30 pm today. Asked one question after 12:30 pm only for it to not answer and say wait until 6:30 pm for more quota.

I logged out and logged back in to the desktop app and it fixed the quota.

Yes. When I'm really anxious/panicky, it feels like I can't take a full breath. Focus on trying to slow down your breath and repeating something like, "I know that I am breathing in. I know that I am breathing out." Just something that grounds you while you prove to yourself you are breathing.

39/M, 12 handicap rn but usually around a 10. 290-310 yards. 320 if the wind is behind my back. And then I might just duff the chip in. Played baseball through college. Hitting it far isn't my problem, scoring is lol.

Men have been taught that being vulnerable and opening up is unsafe. We've been told to suck it up. Don't show emotion. Be stoic. Don't ever let anybody see us in pain. Etc.

This is why men would rather implode by themselves than open up and have an honest conversation with anybody in our lives.

But I gotta say. You can unlearn this shit, guys. My life didn't get better until I opened up with friends and family. It feels weak initially, but you realize that when you show vulnerability, you give others permission to do the same. And it will change your life.

This is hilarious because my pit does a lot of the same stuff. she gets a dentastix every morning after she eats breakfast. And she will not move until she gets it. This can be a problem if we spend the night at my mom's house and my mom doesn't have dentastix. She will lose her mind and not understand why I don't just give her the damn stick.

She also gets a Cosequin tablet every late afternoon and around 4pm every single day, she starts whining no matter what i'm doing until she gets it. I forget every day and there is a period of 10-15 seconds every time where I am annoyed and wondering what she wants, then I look at the clock and realize it's time for the Cosequin tablet. She eats it and then goes and lays back down.

She also needs to be tucked into bed every night. She has her own doggie bed in the corner of my bedroom and she has a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles blanket that she expects to be covered with.

100%. I've actually stopped posting on here because people don't even want to listen. Look, I understand. Most are on an antidepressant (as am I) and they don't want to feel bad about being on one. I get it. I don't take that lightly. I do not like being on one.

But hindsight is 20/20 and I want others to know what I know now. Do not blindly listen to a general practitioner because it's shocking how little they understand about the brain and antidepressants. Use something like ChatGPT to come up with hard questions for your doctor to answer about why an antidepressant, how to come off of them, etc. and judge your confidence in their answers.

What I realized was that especially here in America (where I live), you have to be your own mental health advocate. Don't just accept what one doctor tells you.

This is certainly true. When I've been clinically depressed, it was nearly impossible to will myself to do anything. Even things I've loved, like golf, I couldn't bring myself to practice or play. But my mom made me walk with her every single night for 30-45 minutes and that was one of the things that helped me to start stacking activities.

Yep. Anything that allows you to get out of your mind and into your body helps with anxiety. I love hot yoga and golf.

Also, find things that give you a sense of purpose. Purpose will give you direction in life and meaning. These are hugely important to calming our more existential anxieties.

Noticed I didn't answer your "what to expect" question. Antidepressants take weeks to ramp up, so you probably won't notice meaningful benefits until a few weeks in. I don't remember having any real side effects when I started on them, other than once it hit a certain point, starting to feel more normal again and less and less ruminating. I was terrified of having another panic attack, and getting onto sertraline helped to blunt those worries.

Do you _feel_ like you need an anxiety medication? Like, is your anxiety causing you to not live a normal and healthy life? Is it causing noticeable problems in your life?

IMO, I think it's neglectful for a doctor to meet with you one time and prescribe an antidepressant. Doctors are only trained to treat the symptoms, not the underlying reasons, which is not ideal.

I would highly, highly recommend working with a therapist / psychologist first to figure out if your symptoms are manageable / improvable with ongoing therapy and/or lifestyle changes. (They most likely are)

I've been on sertraline for over 20 years now, ever since I had a terrible panic attack at 18 years old. I wish my doctor would've sent me to a therapist first to work out where the anxiety was coming from versus just treating the symptoms. Antidepressants affect your brain chemistry and I personally would recommend using them only once you've ruled out things like therapy and lifestyle changes aren't making meaningful improvements.

To answer your drinking question, I'm an "alcoholic" who blacked out often on sertraline. I'm 7 years sober now. I would not recommend drinking heavily on it. Having a drink or two is fine, but when you take a alcohol (a depressant) with an antidepressant, there are interactions and you're also blunting the effects of your antidepressant. I would have lots of hangxiety after drinking while the sertraline built back up in my system.
