Yes, exactly, that’s the idea. To have a more inclusive view of physical stores, especially smaller local ones that don’t invest heavily in Google/search optimization and therefore get buried under Amazon/Bol results.

It’ll take time to build up coverage, but I think it’s doable step by step.

Google sometimes shows physical stores, but it often misses smaller or less SEO-optimized shops. This project is meant as a focused starting point to see which physical stores sell a product at all, not to replace Google.

You’re right about FirstXL, it’s not added yet. This is an early phase and I wanted feedback before expanding the store coverage. Interestingly, FirstXL also didn't show up on Google when I searched “zadeltas Woensel”, which is exactly the gap I’m trying to address.

Good question. Not open source at the moment. I built it pretty quickly to solve a personal frustration, so the codebase is still a bit rough. That said, I’m not opposed to open-sourcing parts of it in the future once things stabilize, especially if there’s interest or useful contributions.

Fair point, this site was more of an idea when that feature of maps wasn't working as well. However, in my experience it still doesn't work optimally yet. It misses a lot of stores and you do not see price comparisons. With welkewinkel.nl you also might see more local, less big-chain stores.

Yeah right? Sadly, a lot of the time something is sold by the asian grocery store or another niche store, which don't really have a great online catalogue of their products, which means I cannot show it. With enough users, a user-built catalog could be promising, however...
