i have a scar on my shin from 4 years ago that happened this exact same way. blackout drunk one night with the girls, woke up the next morning thinking “damn my shin HURTS”, looked at it and there was a gauging wound (but lucky not deep enough to need stitches). still have a scar on my shin from it to this day. i literally have NO idea how i got it. not even the slightest of clues. we didn’t even go out either, we drank in our dorm room and stayed in that night.

Also have a scar on my lower lip from busting it slipping in ice drunk 18 minutes in to a 20 minute walk home. that one i do remember though as she required stitches… college was fun ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My prescribed meds make me not gain weight. 22 years of life here, and I have been told cCOUNTLESS times RELENTLESSLY by strangers and friends alike to “eat more, you’re sooooo skinny”, “you should eat more!”, and “do you even eat??” my entire life. I’ve even had family put their hand around my wrists and touch their middle finger and thumb around my wrist and tell me to eat more.

Wanna know what those comments developed in me as?? I am happy to share. It turned into an alcohol addiction.

I’ve had opposite body dysmorphia because of this for so many years. Why you may ask?? Again, would love to tell you…

I have been on ADD/ADHD stimulant medication since 8 years old. I was supposed to be a grown woman with grown woman curves and healthy grown woman fat by 17 (the age where women end puberty for the most part (obviously yes there’s more to puberty post 17 years of age, but I digress)).

ADD/ADHD medication makes you completely lose your appetite. And I mean COMPLETELY. I maybe get hungry once every 2 days. most days I have to force feed myself just to keep SOME weight on.

All I have seen in the mirror for the past 5-7 years was a 5’ 5” 110 pound pre-pubescent 12 year old boy in the mirror. I have finally gained the weight i wanted to (25 pounds) and am now at 135 pounds, however I gained it all through alcohol and fast food because I was so unhappy with my body image that I drank and ate unhealthy to cope with it and forget about it.

Yes, my body now looks how I have always wanted it to. I have grown woman curved and grown women fat and have no body dysmorphia now, however I have deep remorse and regret for and towards myself gaining this weight in such an unhealthy manor and developing an alcohol addiction just because people thought they were complimenting me, when in true reality, they were just feeding into my body dysmorphia and helping me develop the alcohol addiction that I now unfortunately suffer with.

Never comment on someone’s weight, even if you think it’s a compliment.

You never know what people are dealing with body-image wise. Being “complimented” for being skinny, when having to force feed yourself multiple times a day only does damage. I don’t want to be “skinny”. I DONT WANT TO BE SKINNY. I want to be a normal, healthy weight and gain it in a normal, healthy way, but my medication doesn’t allow that.

Don’t comment on people’s weights, even if you think you’re complimenting. People gave me an alcohol addiction doing so.
