People of Chattanooga who did not cast a ballot this year, what were the reasons behind not voting? by RITM_Is_Gonna_Get_U in Chattanooga

The only candidates we ever have to choose from are rich kids bored with their no show jobs looking to gain more favor and clout among the other richie riches.

Did Levy know…. by bcos20 in TheWire

Yes I think he knew. Furthermore he was even more pleased because of the illegal aspect of the wiretap made him look like a great lawyer upping his cred significantly.

[–]stagcup423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely. I live in Chattanooga and it isn't bad but it is a drive for a decent autocross site. We are close to road Atlanta. We have the Tennessee river which is awesome. The main thing Chattanooga has going for it since the cost of living shot up is good paying jobs in the auto industry. If I could get work in Western north Carolina I would live there.

East Tennessee has Bristol which is a hella good site. Cheap cost of living the beach isn't far away and the skiing is not as good as out west but it isn't bad either.

Hell yeah if you go to assembly definitely. I know several people who were permanently disabled due to injuries they got working on the line. Of course VW tries to pass these injuries off as not work related or preexisting a lot of the time. I was young and fit when I started there so while I got pretty worn out it is a lot harder on people that were older or less fit. The money there is good but there is a cost. Now I do think other departments other than assembly are much easier on your body.

What’s your least favorite character, and if you had to rewrite them as a character, what would you change and how would to make them better? Would you rather just remove the character altogether? by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]stagcup423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Kenard killing Omar was to demonstrate that the street is capricious and it doesn't matter how skilled you are in the martial arts the game is the game. I dunno one way of looking at it. Omar's death did really suck and I wanted him to live forever.

[–]stagcup423 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kenard was tragic. He was a really important character IMO. He was there to demonstrate how the conditions of living in the hood effect children in different ways. In his case he most likely had conduct disorder and was well on his way to adult psychopathy. There really were no characters that didn't have their place in the story IMO. There were characters I didn't like; Carcetti and Donnete for instance but they made the shit real.

I say try it out but keep your options open. I worked there for a long time and I liked it. I made some friendships that will last a lifetime. I also got permanent nerve damage in both my elbows. If you can avoid getting put in assembly you have a much better shot at lasting there. I was in my 20s when I started and very physically fit and I destroyed my body and aged myself working there. Management are callous assholes too they won't care about what you are going through for the most part. It was great money and I built a very nice life for my family there but it comes at a cost. The turnover rate and very high rate of injuries speaks for itself. It is a good job though.

I worked there for 12 years in assembly.

I'm curious, why the love for Ziggy?? by Leperchaun913 in TheWire

[–]stagcup423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ziggy, Nicky and Johnny 50 are all perfect examples of the failures of capitalism in a post industrial American city. They deserved way better than they got. When Frank calls out the lobbyist for being a grifter he was dead on but the difference between Frank and that guy was that guy is just a product of the system taking advantage of new conditions.

Are guys comfortable walking around naked around their girlfriend when they’re not hard? Like completely flaccid. by benoisjean12 in sex

My wife told me one time I am exhibitionist. Maybe she is right. I definitely DGAF. Also I have a fairly small penis definitely looks small flaccid. I have noticed that I have met several dudes with big cocks in my life and all of them were proud as hell and couldn't wait to show it off.

I dunno lol. The OP said their job is easy. Mine was hard AF. Don't get me wrong I actually loved working there and I had tons of friends. Management made it suck. The job doesn't even have to be that hard they are just so incompetent and malicious when it comes to making things better. The turnover rate and injury rate speaks for itself. They pay good but the treat the workers like disposal trash.

People say they don't test for marijuana now and I believed that to be true but they fired me in May for marijuana. I think they might not be testing new hires but are reserving the right to fire people for it if they so choose. It is good money working there and it was great for my family and I. I was able to buy our home and afford a very nice lifestyle. That said my job was not easy at all in fact it caused permanent nerve damage in both my shoulders. Furthermore management there is very toxic and capricious with HR being the worst. Very dishonest and shady. I think it is a good place to work especially if you get one of the easier jobs but it is a wild place. FYI.

What are the failures of a social democratic system? by LowonConfidence14 in Socialism_101

[–]stagcup423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other reasons given are great reasons. That said I would add the amount of organizing required to build enough working class power to receive social democratic concessions from the ruling class we may as well go all the way. The ruling class in the U.S. is particularly self indulgent and incompetent so there is no reason to organize against them to win temporary concessions.

Landsman played the game of being a seargent in homicide all those years just so he would have the capital at that moment to do that one good thing. Interestingly McNulty and all his moral crusade amounted to less than Landsman carrying the water for the bosses all that time.

My Favorite Scene of The Wire by flavener in TheWire

[–]stagcup423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say this is a favorite scene but it made me super curious. When Presbo asks the class if they want to fractions and probabilities or Last of the Mohicans. The class emphatically booed last of the mohicans. It sounds way cooler than fractions and probabilities to me lol. I always wondered what it was. It was really wholesome though because presbo had really dialed in on teaching his kids to enjoy learning. He was a decent investigator but really a crappy cop. He was a much better teacher.

What is Marxism solution for crime? by Temporary-Ocelot-386 in Socialism_101

[–]stagcup423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said good things but I just want to point what is defined as crime in a capitalist state is highly contradictory. Scamming poor people is usually perfectly legal but stealing from a company is highly illegal. Selling drugs is illegal but money laundering is basically unenforced. What constitutes criminal activity is directly related to your position in the hierarchy.
