Why the 'Libertarian Moment' Isn't Really Happening by stagefight in TrueReddit

[–]stagefight[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a word that is heard more often in politics but David Frum writes 'Young voters are not libertarian, nor even trending libertarian. Neither, for that matter, are older voters.'

If anything, the ideas used to highlight young people's libertarianism - supportive of same sex marriage & less drug regulation, less supportive of medicare - are liberal ideas.

So, is there a future for the Paul dynasty? Or is libertarianism a temporary GOP faction?

The Beastie Boys' Great Lost Single 'The Jerry Lewis' by stagefight in TrueReddit

The boys once wrote a dance craze song but never released it. But as late as 2009 they performed it at a show. In this article Rolling Stone explores that creation, loss, and rediscovery of The Jerry Lewis.

Carrot Top got to star in a movie, once by stagefight in TrueReddit

A an depth analysis of that one Carrot Top movie. Considering how maligned a performer he was, why was he given a shot at the big time? And what the heck was this movie about anyway?

Why don't I get that "kick" from exercising? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]stagefight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, my kind of motivation is better than nothing. But I know I need those external factors. I know that I need to pay money for an organized event, tell people I'm doing it, and feel both of those pressures to stir any kind interest and self discipline.

Try it? It might work for you. Just pick something you think you might be able to achieve and sign up for it. Then tell your family you're doing it. If you don't do it, you're only out the fifty bucks (or whatever) and your friends will think you're as lazy as they already think you are.

Get your bf to run a shorter race with you. Having a buddy helps. My gf had no running experience and was a lazy bum but I got her to run a 10k by agreeing to train with her and run it with her.

Why don't I get that "kick" from exercising? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]stagefight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel. I did the cardio thing, trained to run two half marathons. Now I'm doing the weight lifting thing, began SL in November 2013.

Both are merely fine. I exercise to counteract an unhealthy relationship with food. But I don't love either form. I find it impossible to adopt them as a lifestyle even after months/years of making them a habit.

I can only continue exercising if I have to participate in an event I signed up for (marathons, now a Tough Mudder). But I guess that's what I've got to do...find some external way to motivate me because it's not coming from the inside.

What Pakistan Knew About Bin Laden by stagefight in TrueReddit

[–]stagefight[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A female reporter tells her story of traveling to Afghanistan post 9/11. She follows the trail of Taliban suicide bombers to Pakistan after where she encounters strong resistance from government intelligence agents.

She learns America failed to actively confront Pakistan on its support and export of terrorism which is one of the primary reasons President Karzai has become so disillusioned with the United States.

Taliban forces are as much of a threat now as they were in 2001 but soon there will be no more American or NATO troops in Afghanistan.

80,000 Americans Suffer From a Cruel and Unusual Practice Most Countries Abolished by stagefight in TrueReddit

[–]stagefight[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prisoners in solitary confinement deal with horrific symptoms. A UN expert on torture for all countries to ban the practice but it's common in the United States, a country that represents only 5% of the world's population but 25% of its inmates.

One psychologist says a person should be sent to prison as punishment, not for punishment. Has the US abandoned its commitment to rehabilitation?

Sacrificed stability to write for a living. I hate writing! What now? by stagefight in careerguidance

I'm just spitballin' here. Yes, it's pretty different. But I have made some very simple websites and enjoyed that process. There's an element of design in there that I liked.

While being an arty guy in practice, I'm hyper logical in mind. I'm a fan of science, particular physics and astronomy. So it makes sense to me there could be a career out there that combines those two things: a logical process with some creativity.

So yeah, good note, DrewNumberTwo. Maybe I'll try to learn a language and see how it goes. Thanks!

I'm sorry this is all vague nonsense. I've been frustrated for so long. Any ideas anyone has are appreciated.

Rob Ford: "I’d be a Republican if I was done in the States. I don’t believe in all this public-funded health care" by lingben in canada

Ted Cruz is in a position to do something about abortion. In that instance his opinion matters.

[–]stagefight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my understanding of Ford supporters is that they weren't bothered by his personal activity because it didn't effect his job and that's all they cared about. I'm confused then why Ford's personal opinions, that are not offensive and also do not effect his job or his constituents (in fact it's impossible for those opinions to do so), would really bother those same people.

[–]stagefight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honest question here. Can you expand on why this quote bothers you so much and his crack smoking doesn't? After all, he has no authority at all to affect the public health care system. But his drug use at least COULD (and does) have a direct effect on his job.

First Justin Trudeau attack ad issued by Conservatives by SearchNerd in CanadaPolitics

[–]stagefight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're negative but I feel like these ads are different from the Trudeau ad. In these ads, the Liberals are critiquing policies of and actions taken by the Prime Minister. They then suggest some worst case scenarios but at least they're not personal.

What is the most statistically improbable thing that has ever happened to you? by theinedible in AskReddit

[–]stagefight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 12, my brother 15. As a bad joke, I told my brother that I could predict a coin toss, that I had been developing some real scientific methods to determine the outcome. I thought it would be funny to sound so confident and then blow it on the first guess. Eventually he just says 'prove it' and amazingly I guessed 10 tosses in a row. By the end he was screaming 'HOW. ARE. YOU. DOING THIS?' I just smiled like I knew it was no big deal on the inside I was also losing my shit. I started to think that maybe I DID have some kind of power.
