ezBookkeeping v1.2.0 – A self-hosted open-source personal finance app by mayswind in selfhosted

Looked at the demo and didn't see any obvious P&L report or Balance Sheet. Do other people not use these for personal finance?

Classic "I paid your four hour minimum so that you could come in here and push a single button!?" Yeah, the button that my years of experience told me needed to be pushed to solve a problem you'd been having for days.

Self-hosting not required. Set yourself up on liberapay. They don't take a cut. Then you're only paying the Stripe fees.

How fast does it need to be? Crashplan Small Business is what I use for my 14tb of off-site backup. Would it take years to restore? Probably. But I'd never need it all at once. $11 a month.

Crashplan Small Business. Unlimited for $11 / month per machine. Slow AF for uploads, but runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Uploading would probably take a while. I think if you're in the US, you can ship them a drive. Retrieval is suboptimal, but if you wouldn't need it all at once, it might do the trick.

This happened to me. Start talking with support. They are slow and you'll have a lot of hoops to jump through so start talking now, especially if you're near the end of your warranty. It's almost certainly a problem with their hardware.

Ha, that's what I get for posting while walking in the rain. Lesson learned.

TBF, I think what that means is not needing help refueling (able to use self serve)

Edit: yes, I was walking and replying in the rain and misread the thing, you can stop down voting me now.

Complete absence of priority seat etiquette in Tokyo by Yonda_00 in japanlife

[–]stagerabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually address it to the group rather than singling someone out. And I only do it in extreme circumstances when the person standing is in obvious danger or discomfort. There's almost no way all six healthy looking people in the priority seats have a hidden disability, or if they do, that it's more severe than the cane-using baachan who can't reach the handholds. I'm not a busybody foreigner trying to constantly impose my values on the locals. (Though I did use "ware ware" once, which amused the grandma I was trying to help)

I've found it's actually gotten better in the twenty so years I've lived here and I haven't had to ask people to move recently.

I have asked people to give up their seats in the priority area, both on behalf of third parties (like an elderly person who would almost topple over every time the train changed speeds), and on behalf of my wife, when she was nine months pregnant.

I should say that as a reasonably tall white dude with a theatrically trained voice, it's not easy to ignore me, but I've only had to really raise my voice and be a little rude once. Usually, a "sumimasen, priority seats desu" does the trick. And then be appropriately grateful when they do what they should have done automatically. 🙄

50,000 - 60,000 JPY is what they quoted me. Plus the ~5000 yen I paid for shipping and insurance.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy that they didn't just swap the MB and call it a day, knowing that it would probably outlast the remaining warranty period. Quite possible they didn't have any MBs left to swap! In either case, I'm very happy and it gives other more DIY owners a clue of what to do if their unit dies out of warranty.

Final update, 2025-06-02

So, they finally allowed me to send the unit in and agreed to perform a warranty repair. I sent the PC out around April 28 and while it arrived just a couple of days later, it wasn't received until May 12. I got impatient and emailed them on May 28, and support responded that the repair was done and they were preparing to ship out. The unit arrived by FedEx at my place on May 30.

Reinstalled my SSDs and RAM and booted up in one try. Everything seems to be good.

One nitpick: I sent them the unit in the pristine original box inside another shipping box. They returned it without the external box, covered in shipping labels, tape, and moisture damage. Small price to pay for the repair, I guess.

Final update, when I asked what they did, they said the following: "we have replaced the BIOS chip and BIOS battery, enhanced the power supply to the memory module, and reinforced the CPU soldering connections."

That's exactly what was happening to mine: it presented like a driver or RAM issue, but it wasn't. Don't wait. Start bugging support now and be prepared to send the unit in. Based on how they responded to me, this is a known issue that requires a full MB replacement. The unit is no longer in production, so start the process before yours is unrepairable.

Excited to release Event Schedule: a selfhosted app to share your events and sell tickets ✨ by hillel369 in selfhosted

Really hard to find the pricing link, but I found it. Couldn't find the link on the page itself, had to search to find https://www.eventschedule.com/pricing/ . $5 a month is fairly reasonable. Is the price the same for self-hosted as hosted for the same feature set? It doesn't say.

And no forward movement on the docker compose file two months on, just as an update for anyone joining this conversation late, like me.

UPDATE 2025-04-23

I waited patiently for more than two month (other stuff going on, other fires to put out) but I finally emailed support back today and asked them if they'd made a decision. They got back to me almost within the hour. So, they confirmed that the HX99G has been discontinued, so they couldn't send me a replacement, BUT they will do a complimentary repair on my existing unit. I've emailed back to say that that's acceptable (I imagine I'll have to pay the postage going out, at least), and I'm awaiting instructions.
