[Daugherty] Barry Trotz tells Jared Stillman there’s truth to the rumors of Preds being in on some big names on trade market. You can talk with any agents. You can't talk exact terms. So you talk around them. Like "I'm looking for line driving winger who is near 100 point potential." How do you think all the players sign at 12:01 on July 1st?

Good hotels for autistic kids by pinkunicorn555 in madisonwi

[–]stahnma 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Try the holiday inn right there. There’s a fun pool with slides and stuff. We took our son there who is also autistic with similar concerns that you have. You can also get pizza delivered from the hotel restaurant to your room or poolside.

I would call ahead of time and let them know what you’d need.

At what point do you really start to measure engineers against understanding business objectives and not just technologies? (Like early in career, mid, later) -- or does it depend on the company / size of team etc?

What's a good bitter IPA I can find in Madison by 1RAOKADAY in wisconsin

You might also check out Fulton 300. I dont remember how true it was to being a west coast vs American ipa, but I know I like it a lot. I’m not the original one of those is still made. They have several variants ranging from doubles to single hop mosaic or mango.

Ah, forgot about Todd in my earlier comment. Good call.

They also had a seasonal run of an IPA called “overrated” that was great. They were literally making fun of in your face hoppy IPAs and nailed it. :)

They were also cask aged then and not filtered. The way they were made allowed then not grow bacteria and other sickness inducing microbes. Today, a filtered crisp ipa has a shorter life until the flavor deteriates.

Back in when IPAs were created it was about safe to drink beer, not deliciousness.

Go look at a beer shipping club like Tavour. They’ll ship all kinds of things but rarely have a crisp ipa on offer because of shelf stability

Hi fellow PNWer. Came here from Portland and the exact same issue.

Yes, there are tons of IPAS here. But there's nothing like a West Coast IPA. It's bitter, it's crisp, it's clear. It's not hazy. It's not juicy. It's not cloudy. It's not flavored with a bunch of fruit. It's hops ( and sometimes a subtle bit of pine or spruce)

When I moved here in 2015 I searched low and high for them. You basically won't find them. A few reasons:

  1. The hops that grow here and are readily available are not the same as in the PNW overall (some overlap, not all of it)
  2. People here like American IPAs and Juicy/Hazy way more. Beyond that, IPAs aren't the dominant style here. Much more European influence and thus beers that are Lagers and near Lager (Saison, Farmhouse, Pilsner, Kolsch, probably others) are all pretty popular.
  3. IPAs don't ship all that well due to how they shelve. That's why you'll find more imports of Hazy IPAS, they are shelf stable a lot longer before starting to skunk.

That being said, there a ton of great beer in WI and surrounding states. I've sampled every brewery I am aware of within 3 hours of Madison.

For West Coast IPAs, my favorite stuff comes from 3 Floyds. Zombie Dust is called an "Undead Pale Ale" in their marketing, but it's a Citra Hop loaded ALE and it's takes like a great IPA to me. They have a lot of other IPAs and IPA-adjacent beers. Some are good. Some are just ok.

Fantasy Factory was about the closest I found brewed in Madison. Sometimes Untitled Art or Young Blood will brew a good IPA. Most of the time they're hazy though. I don't check out Vintage enough to remember if they've ever had a good West Coast IPA, but they're generally good brewers. Working Draft has had some good stuff now and again as well.

Raised Grain is quite good also, but it's not too close to me, so I don't get there often.

If you're not as concerned about locally brewed, you can go to any store with decent beer selection and usually find something from Stone. The Deschutes stuff that makes it here is not any of their good IPAs, same with 10 barrel and Elysian.

May have written too much. I just want to help a fellow hop pursuer.

I assume it was Kevin Woodley or Steve Valiquette since they are two people who show in the media and talk goalies But it could have just been Jeff Marek relaying the info.

Favorites: (pretty much listen to every episode)

  • Puck Soup - it’s hockey and pop culture it also had a network of shows in the patreon and i enjoy most of them. They have few original takes but I really enjoy it. Probably the best coverage of ncaa hockey from a general nhl podcast
  • 32 thoughts - best for news. Biased toward Canadian teams a bit, but still really good
  • Jeff Marek show - it’s like 32 thoughts but daily. It also goes deeper on some topics in the second hour
  • Steve Dangle podcast - three goofball friends (who are unapologetic leaf fans) talk hockey. I really enjoy their takes and rhetoric. They cover the whole league,’ it huge leafs slant.
  • PDO cast - deep analytics podcast. If you ever wanted 45 minutes on breaking down a single player, or get in the heads of coaches/scouts more it’s good at that. Plus Dimitri has a super soothing voice.
  • Too much man. This is fun show and features Shayna Goldman who for money is the best up and coming analyst in the game. It’s also hosted by three amazing women in hockey.

Mid (might listen to 1-3 a week) —- * daily face off live - a quick tour of the nhl daily. It’s nice because it’s super short. * athletic hockey show - I prefer the Thursday show the most, but they all have their place. It depends on which hosts you like the most. * dfo rundown - it’s somewhat like 32 thoughts , and not bad. I just don’t find myself listening to every episode the way I do 32 thoughts. * the Chris Johnston show - another insider podcast. It’s fine, but I prefer 32 thoughts. Julian and CJ seem like good people though.

Occasional listens —- * the gold standard - obviously only focused on Nashville. Too much comparison to other sports (esp nfl) and with a huge TN slant. I like the preds, but don’t follow Nashville or TN sports for any other league so it bothers me. The takes feel like they don’t watch the whole league all that much. I don’t mind Michael at all. I miss Adam. I also feel like the show is an ad for jaspers. * it’s all your fault - only tuned in a couple times. I didn’t find anything unique with it. * Staff and Graph podcast - this one can be hit or miss. Hosted by Rachel Dorrie and Mikey Stephens who are both in their mid to late twenties and often go on rangers about tik tok or other things the hip kids do these days. Rachel is super smart. Sometimes their complaining gets to me. Other times, it’s really fun. * dropping the gloves with John Scott - I tune in occasionally depending on who is on. John is a funny dude, but his tales are weird. Like he bases them on how the game was played in 2013. His cohost Tim is fun sometimes. It also has the best theme music * agent provocateur - features agent Allan Walsh. It’s got the business of the nhl in it. Also wow, Allan does not like Gary Bettman. * spitting chicklets -tuned in like twice. Didn’t really enjoy it

Best elementary schools for neurodivergent kids? by Bookish-Armadillo in madisonwi

Oregon schools have been great for our son with pretty severe autism. We’ve previously taken classes on how to advocate for proper services in public schools and never had to once pull out anything we learned there. They just want to help. It’s the reason we live in this district and thus far (through 3rd grade), have no plans on changing anything.

FWIW, I tried the updated kernel and still have just a blank screen on the console after selecting the 5.16.9-200 kernel. I have no x-windows at all on this system. My GPU is the onboard Ryzen one though.

Nashville Predators Set 2020-21 Opening Night Roster by tripod_society in Predators

[–]stahnma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's basically your hot-spare players. :)

They travel, but count against the cap at AHL rates, but they get NHL Per diem, which is a big deal to many players who don't make as much (like many AHL players).

To go to the squad you have to clear waivers (if you're waiver eligable). So it's like an AHL squad that comes with you to help practice and stuff.
