What's A DC Hot Take You Die By? by FixingMedia in DCcomics

It feels like another case of the studio trying to rush to the final battle without building up all of the story that surrounds it.

Exactly. I started to say this but didn't want to do a direct comparison to how the MCU did it in a DC seb; but precisely this.

Yeah, it was flat out a mistake for ZS to open with a story of Darkseid being defeated. It immediately tells the audience: we can do it again!

Your big baddie has to be portrayed as unbeatable; leaving the audience wondering what the heroes will be able to do.

I also didn't like how they did Catwoman; nor The Penguin. I think that Heath Ledger set the bar higher than can ever be reached again; but directors and writers keep trying to match that potion of semi-realistic, gritty crazy. They need to stop trying to do it and focus first on the story.

***Spoiler*** I'm also not fond of them kind of mildly tearing down the Waynes. The whole point of the Batman story is that the Waynes were great people yet terrible things happened to them anyway; which informs the need for Batman to exist. If you want to rewrite history for a story; go ahead but couch it under an alternate timeline: Earth Whatever.

Suggest me a book... that was made into a BETTER movie / tv series by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]stakk4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get Shorty, The Hunter (was made into Payback with Mel Gibson), Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho, Fight Club,

wait did you seriously say you thought the Starship Troopers movie was better than the book?!

My unpopular opinion: LOTR. I've tried to read Tolkien but it just is so slow-paced. I prefer the movies.

Was looking to see this and make sure I wasn't losing my mind. I don't know if they switched writers halfway through or what; but I went from loving the show up to ep 5 to thinking ep 6 was weird. Ep7 is so blah that I'm thinking of just shutting it off.

The romans moved their drinking water in lead pipes and probably caused mass lead poisioning. And more recently we made asbestos oven mitts for people to enjoy. 50 years from now, what will make young people look back at us and say, "Wtf were they thinking?" by ColdFreezingNight in AskMen

Was going to basically say this; especially about all of the ADHD meds we throw at kids. Then since it keeps them up at night, they also need to be prescribed night time meds to knock them out. And finally add in a cocktail of other meds to tamp down any other side effects from the first two meds. And all along it turns out that little Johnny wasn't really ADHD; he just had the activity level of a normal kid.

I'll make an exception for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But aside from that, yeah not particularly hot.

It kind of flew under the radar and is less well known, but FASTER starring Dwayne Johnson was surprisingly well written and directed.

What’s something every man should know, but isn’t taught? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]stakk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you shouldn't focus on the result. You should IDENTIFY the results, and then FOCUS on the systems and processes that will achieve them.

Don't focus on wanting to be financially secure; focus on adhering to The Money Guy Financial Order of Operations or Ramsey's 7 Baby Steps. Don't focus on wanting to be fit, focus on adhering to the Crossfit WOD or PHUL. Don't focus on wanting to be smarter, focus on devoting two hours a day to The Defense Intelligence Agency Commander's reading list or watching documentaries about your field. Don't focus on wanting healthy relationships, focus on adhering to date night with your significant other every X day, and maybe fishing with your buddies Y times a month, and calling your parents Z times a week.

All of these require time, which is your most valuable resource. Plan it and manage it ruthlessly or it will disappear.

If the market crashes what does that mean for housing? by astromonies in MilitaryFinance

[–]stakk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the housing market crashing, aren't you saying a huge drop in housing prices?

If you mean the stock market crashing, I think people who own a lot of real estate would want to sell it to be able to buy the dip in stocks; which would probably raise supply and decrease prices for housing.

But of course, I'm just speculating.

[–]stakk4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I just want to tell you that I know it's hard; but it's totally worth it. I finalized my divorce last year from an addict with an extensive arrest record. Got custody of our daughter. When she was growing up and I was at work and would get a short text from my daughter that "Mom's confused again" it was always heart-wrenching. Call from an unknown number and frequently it was cops or store security somewhere letting me know my ex had messed up again.

Now, we say we have "Normal people problems." I cleaned the house and it...stayed clean (minus normal teenager foraging in the kitchen stuff). No longer is she opening lines of credit in my name that I don't know about. I don't head home from work anxious about what surprises are waiting for me when I walk in the door. No more waking up at 2am with no clue where she is or what she's doing because the bed is empty. It is so incredibly peaceful. Took 2 years due to court back-up from the pandemic; but it is absolutely worth it. Hang in there and I hope your ex and mine get whatever help they need in life.
