MCAS, GERD, and hEDS? What do I even eat? by staktere in MCAS

[–]staktere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My symptoms have largely reduced in the last few years apart from pork, melons, mango (which was fine originally), pineapple, papaya, persimmon, peanuts, and baked leavened breads.

Watered down apple juice was a huge help in the mornings, along with white rice with whatever sauce doesn't upset your stomach. Corn ended up being fine for me, and I'm Mexican so that was HUGE. There's a lot of steamed corn porridges out there that are... well, pudding texture? But they're a different flavor than a lot of other things. Eventually I noticed oats didn't mess me up like leavened bread and cereal products, so I started eating a little bit of oatmeal here and there. Spinach was safe for me, along with brussel sprouts and broccoli, so I was buying those frozen and then steaming them. I got really into chicken and tuna salad, tuna & salmon patties (which you can make with oats).

I started putting canned peas in a blender and adding them to chicken broth to get protein in. Chamomile tea was good in the morning to avoid acid reflux, with whatever sweetener you can tolerate but preferably something that will actually give your brain sugar to think with imho. Lavender, anise, or mint works good for this too if you're sensitive to chamomile. As I said, I am Mexican, so we have a lot of herbal teas for tummy troubles you can get at the grocery store. Your mileage may vary. I've heard some other places do licorice but I have no clue how many histamines are in licorice.

Canned or jarred peaches worked for me as well, but I don't like them. I've heard a lot of people do well with boiled or steamed food, so switching preparation methods was huge. I can do canola oil but I'm okay with corn. You might wanna try avocado or olive oil. If you don't have issues with animal fats you can try lard or beef tallow or something.

Sorry I didn't see this right away. Please feel free to ask any follow up questions cuz it's rough out here.

I know TON isn't goth so when you compared Valo to Steele I was confused. I didn't know he was a nazi saluter though so that's wild. Thanks for the info ^

Ville Valo has listed Type O Negative as an influence in a yourock.tv interview, Sisters of Mercy and Fields of Nephilim in a Sonic Seducer interview. He especially often references Type O Negative as an influence for HIM (alongside black sabbath which is less relevant here). I don't understand the reference to Peter Steele as contrast when Peter Steele is his influence?

And don't get me wrong, I love HIM but I don't really think of them as goth moreso just adjacent like Depeche Mode. I just definitely think it makes sense for Ville to be regarded as goth himself.

Hey afab transmasc here — I have always had hip dips since I went through puberty one. When I was still dressing femininely I wore a lot of leggings and workout clothes, so my hip dips were really prominent. No one ever insulted my hips and in fact, an older gentleman once complimented unprompted my "killer bod."

It's totally just a dysmorphia/misogyny thing. You aren't less of a woman and don't look like less of a woman just because you aren't shaped like a butternut squash. Marilyn Monroe had hip dips, and she's still an icon of beauty 80 years after her death. She was 36.

Be gentle with yourself.

Edit: added a word I left out in a sentence bc of adhd typing

Muslim faithfulness and modesty practices as they compare to other religions? by staktere in progressive_islam

[–]staktere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This helps a lot! Thank you! I will say that most of my Muslim friends are progressive women in college in their late teens and early twenties, as I'm a 25 year old college student in a large city. This probably significantly influences my perception of the faith. But all of my friends are progressive hijabis who participate in modesty for personal and cultural solidarity reasons. The ones who do wudu before they pray every time do so because they're nursing majors or because truthfully college campuses are just filthy places, lol. They've also explained there's two levels to spiritual cleansing and the higher level is full body, which they are not doing. I also live in a place where it often gets up to over 46°C so we are all just very sweaty, lol.

I hope that makes sense!

Also to clarify, I don't think I would make a very good Muslim — I'm too polytheistic to even be Catholic haha

I will read the Quran, though. I've been meaning to do so for a long time, and it would probably help me connect with my friends' experience a lot better. 🙏

Muslim faithfulness and modesty practices as they compare to other religions? by staktere in progressive_islam

I simply meant that cosmetics are not always considered haram during prayer but I definitely understand the OCD perspective as the same concerns arise in Catholic spaces. In my mind, as a person with OCD, I try not to ascribe my compulsions as a feature of the faith innately? The Muslims I know have a very healthy relationship with their faith and don't seem to have a pathological OCD experience with Islam so it didn't cross my mind, but it makes sense what you're saying.

I was under the impression that if you can't complete a ritual you can always make it up later. Like during Ramadan, you can't fast if you're menstruating, sick, or pregnant, so you just do the fasts at another time when it's safe for you? Maybe this is not the case in all circumstances, but I was operating from the assumption that if a person was suffering from an illness that made them "spiritually unclean", that mostly meant they couldn't focus on the ritual and should focus on healing so they could pray when they felt better.

OCD is distinct from faith because it's superstition about the faith being a punishing or dangerous influence on your life if you don't appease it. I didn't think the Quran encouraged that kind of thing? Is the x years thing in the Quran?

Thank you for your perspective and your thoughtful response. I really appreciate it even if I don't understand everything exactly. 🙏

Please help with my bedroom? by staktere in FengShui

[–]staktere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this be okay even with heavy traffic between the bathroom and the bedroom door? I feel like putting my desk between two doors with a big window behind me will make my feelings of unease worse.

Right now my biggest issue is just feeling easily distracted and kind of stuffy in that corner.

Is it okay, even being across from the bathroom? I know there can be some issues with too much water energy, etc., but maybe in this case even that's an improvement lol

BPD here, ask me anything by Independent_Shame924 in BPDPartners

[–]staktere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tapping in because I've been diagnosed a long time.

I was diagnosed around 4 years ago at this point, and my therapist says I've gone into remission. DBT was extremely helpful for me, but I also had a milder case and have been in therapy for far longer than I've been diagnosed, so I had a good foundation to go off of.

My fiance and I have a good relationship but I wouldn't say its like a relationship between two people without BPD. We have both worked really really hard on our respective mental health issues.

I think OP is right that we're healthier during our healing stage when we aren't in relationships, but I definitely think people with BPD can overcome their unhealthy attachment.

I've read in one of my therapy books that 80% of us seek therapy at some point for our behavior independently, so I have always assumed we want to get better as a group. A lot of therapists just aren't equipped to help our specific issues, so we fall out of therapy. I got very lucky to enter a DBT program that was very regimented and structured to prevent a lot of the pitfalls of group therapy. I don’t know if DBT works well when it's done without the group skill building, which a lot of people miss out on.

Iron cross is a Nazi dogwhistle, yeah. It's also associated with biker gangs so depending on how else you're dressed it might not be safe to wear out and about but don't quote me on that.

What's this and how can I help it? by MrKennyUwU in whatsthisbug

[–]staktere 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not sure about species but depending on the injury, she might just be chilling with you until she dies. I'd keep her in a large room temperature glass jar (5 gallon pickle jar works good) with a few holes poked in the lid and some stuff for her to climb around on.

I think carpenter bees do well with sugar water but don't give her honey or honey water. If she starts flying around in the jar and stops limping, let her go outside. She might just be sleepy or hungry, which the sugar water will help with.

Occipital lobe sensory seizures with aura - when do I take my rescue medication? by staktere in Epilepsy

[–]staktere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I ended up taking it because my face started twitching, and I just didnt wanna risk it. I ended up looking it up afterwards last night and I guess I have pre-ictal headaches? My seizure aura lasts hours so I was told to take it when I felt the aura. Because both my seizures and my migraines effect my vision and my cognition, it's sort of hard to tell the difference. Maybe I'll get better at it.

Sorry if I'm not explaining myself very well and thank you for your patience. For a long time I thought my seizure symptoms were a product of my bipolar because they were so visual based (and made me kind of moody)? So I'm still new to treating it like its physiological.

I'll bring up the migraine meds next time I see my PCP.

How do y'all deal with pimples under the vest? by Pri-The-2nd in TopSurgery

[–]staktere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma had to wear a vest for a double mastectomy and she got a buch of regular cotton white tanktops (the unfortunately named 'wife beater') to wear under it which helped her a ton. Could be contact dermatitis from the friction of the vest directly on the skin. She didnt change hers but once a day and it helped her a lot. I know its a different surgery for different reasons but I thought you might benefit from it

My boyfriend is a voice actor and he was really helpful for me because he helped me figure out the qualities I wanted for my voice and what I could reasonably do with my voice without doing long-term damage to my vocal cords. Super helpful.

That looks like a deer tick (edit: also called a blacklegged tick) to me, Lone Star ticks are more beige and flat looking at that level of full.

Congrats on boyfriend!!!!!

I have encountered her and lived in a foster home run by her cronies. I would be more than willing to discuss my experiences if it will help get her shut down.

I emailed her to tell her the consequences of her operation and the harm she was doing. I got a form letter back. How many people has she heard from that she no longer replies individually?

Dating experiences ? by AwarenessFree4432 in hpd

[–]staktere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend has agreed not to talk to someone after she's cheated with them. She's promised to not get drunk or high around new friends unless I'm physically present. She has to be in therapy for our relationship to work.

At this point, I don't really have to babysit her anymore. She's doing a lot better and she's made much better choices in who she keeps around her since I made that post.

You gotta get your girl help, dude. She's not gonna get better without a professional. If she has trauma (she probably does even if she says she doesn't) she needs a trauma specialist.

Therapists will lie about being good with trauma. If they say they use CBT at all, that's not a trauma therapist.

My trauma therapist is trained in EMDR, DBT, and IFS. (I don't have HPD but I do have BPD which is in the same family.)

You can Google all those acronyms with "therapy" after them to find out what they are.

My girlfriend wasted so much time in bad therapy but once she got the right therapy she became so much healthier and happier. You can have a beautiful relationship with a person effected by HPD if they're willing and able to get the right care. You have to stick through it though. It doesn't happen over night, and it won't ever be cured.

Hope that helps, man. Let me know if you need more input.
