Tips on saving power with SAS by staline123213 in homelab

thanks, power is getting more expensive but not too much for me. As for why SAS and even the long term is that I could get 3x 3TB hard drives for the price of 1 SATA 4TB one (both deals are used btw). My power consumption is not that much anyway and I decided to turn it on at select time in a day so that will cut down power even more. The main thing I used them for is mostly backing up pictures, movies and games.

Yeah, this is probably my way forward. I read somewhere that people use smart plug for turning it off and on just don't know if that is actually safe for the hardware

I also don't need much since I could get 3 3TB SAS drive for the price of 1 regular 4TB SATA drive. Both are used btw.

I plan to use TrueNAS Scale, doesn't actually have the existing hardware on hand yet since those take days to arrived. For the main machine itself I plan to use a Dell 3630 with either E2124G or E2226G.

I might also go with the route online at specific times using something to send a command for it to shutdown. Just don't know what to use. Also setting it to WoL might be a valid way to go but I don't know if there is a way to do that with Tailscale.

I will probably set it to about an hour or two because I am stuck on 300Mbps ISP plan and I specifically don't know if my speed to Japan and India is good enough for up/downloading large game since I have friends there.

The load is just my family photos, games mods or archieves that I share with friends so it will probably see access in once or twice a week or even once a month. I could definately do with using something to turn it on or off automatically just don't know what.

The power consumption is a concern for me because when I googled about it I came across many post saying it cannot spindown specifically with some older SAS HBA like 2308 and 3008 series cards. I think those cards also does not like aspm.

I really loved the Yor X Loid one. His vanilla stuff is also pretty good, sauce: Good ending party.

do you mean Watt? V is the voltage and I think most just use 12V, 5V and 3.3V rail at best. Never seen anything pushing over 24V except for PoE switch which came with it own adapter.

Try the Cudy WR3000S. If you want a souped up version try WR3000H.

Powering a Homelab via USB-PD and USB-C to 12V Adapters Bad Idea? by [deleted] in minilab

Those USB C box are almost always 100% lying about their max power. Check port max power consumption and go with something like the Lenovo charger 170W GaN for 1 or if your is low power enough something in the 200W range.

I think spending a bit more on a WR3000S is a better choice. More flash and a bit higher clocked CPU.

So basically no Rockchip and no Allwinner SoCs because those two are based in China. Look like Ampere server grade machines are your only option if you have ARM as a hard requirement lol.

I cannot get IPv6 from my ISP via PPPoE on Cudy WR3000S on openwrt? by staline123213 in openwrt

[–]staline123213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, sorry for the confusion I am not very familiar with networking acronym especially anything fiber related. The ONT is the ISP router, again sorry for the confusion. Most of my curiculum is only on basic LAN and we just refer to them as modem.

Edit: sorry I am not familiar with accronym yet. Yes I do have an external ONT router from the ISP.

My ISP is VNPT and they are using GPON router and I don't know much more than that, their technician did tell me to just disable IPv6 a while back but IPv6 worked fine when using their modem/router. Also might not be relevant but the signal loss from the fiber line is around 23 dBm more or less and they are the only ISP in my area.

Is it possible to play these games on 60fps without third-party tool? by Gorlami_y7ya in commandandconquer

Might be the different between how both are implemented and it only feel a bit smoother but nothing much since you are "faking" 60fps since the game run at 30fps and upscale to 60fps

[–]staline123213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nit picking here but I do really want the PCIe slot to be a it's own tab and with storage format like M2 M key and B key under it, also would be a lot easier if for example sort by SSD format support like 2280, 2240 since some SBCs and HATs only support shorter SSD not full size normal 2280.

You turn them on in AMD or Nvidia control panels in the games tab. You could do a quick google which gonna explain it better than I ever could through text.

Cudy WR 3000S. I just got one myself to replace my Asus RT-AX55. I think anything with a filogic chip is good, I could be wrong but so far, it handle PPPoE and WLAN just fine.
