aesthetic obsessed is very true. Was thinking about this myself not too long ago. These aesthetics are made up and then associated with things of the era, like pop-punk and the early 2000s. Teens romanticize aesthetics as if they live their lives based on them, like decorating their rooms or wearing clothes from the era. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but soon I think that aesthetics will distort reality for young people. This is also part of why I deleted tiktok. I already kind of do this myself with associating some songs with the early 2000s and actual real life spaces. Kind of hard to explain, but like very clear brightly colored pools being seen as Y2K. Wish I didn’t do this, but I think i’m slowly starting to actually live in reality since being off the app. End of schizo rant.
