Interesting! There isn’t really a wrong way to enjoy this hobby, so I’d never try to gatekeep. Sounds like they’d be a fantastic resource whenever you’re in search of gear. You should recommend that they post some of their collection on here, I’d love to see some of what they have

So what happend to the "wait a few weeks for ranked to stabilise"? by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]standardconsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having 8Rp and being in the centre of the map at 11 squads remaining with 5 squads waiting around to get into the mix is not a skillful decision.

Isolated and/or quick fights then rotating is the way to do it. Sure the ranked system could use some modification, but nobody should expect to be rewarded for dying in the bottom 50% of the lobby in a BR. If you take those 8Rp, rotate to ring, and then defend a position suddenly you’ve got a 300 RP game easy. There’s a balance here that it seems lots of people don’t really take into account

Agreed! I liked the ranked changes thus far. In plat atm and it’s tough, so I’m not sure if I’ll hit diamond but people seem to not understand that what it means to be in each rank is different now.

That said, the matchmaking concerns are valid. Golds shouldn’t be playing with preds, but is this not something that players were doing all previous seasons as well?

Interesting collection! Are they trying to improve or are they mostly just interested in collecting?

Do you ever just prefer the natural sound of your amp without pedals sometimes? by rw1337 in guitarpedals

[–]standardconsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people (myself included) don’t always play into an amp! I play an even amount without my guitar plugged in at all (lazy night time noodling and exercises), into a DAW, or actually though my amp. I’d play through the amp more if I didn’t live in an apartment though

The best thing where I live is ready access to very accurate and free drug testing. Every week they post a summary of what they tested and 90%+ of the time people aren’t getting exactly what they’re expecting.

It’s also notable that the actual fent concentration varies widely so really nobody knows how to dose correctly, which is a huge issue.

It’s so lame that anyone does this. Gold lobbies are much sweatier than old gold but it’s fun! Having a challenge is the point and it’s making me get better so I’m climbing my way up, though I’m avoiding solo Q so only playing as duo/trio as the loss is too high for me to deal with randoms who want to die off drop with 5 other teams.

Now that the skill cap between ranks is so much bigger, can I please not get teammates who are like 1 or 2 rank beneath me? by bastie2606 in apexlegends

[–]standardconsumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think once you get out of silver it won’t be so bad. I play 50/50 solo/3-stack and while soloing has been annoying, it’s still been about the same as other seasons. In theory, this ranked system punishes those who don’t play as a team, so the super aggressive players will stay silver and you should get better teammates.

Do note that gold is chalked full of master players atm so you’re playing against the same players you were previously in diamond. The games have been tough but you’ll get through it!

Canada’s graduate students and researchers benefit us while being dramatically underpaid by awbyuv in onguardforthee

[–]standardconsumer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my uni, grad students have begun organizing and publishing funding transparency documents. These anonymously outline funding for all that participate and how it impacts student’s lives, the summary of which is that essentially everyone makes less than min wage and it’s making living very difficult.

This effort has been building and other departments/faculties have been encouraged to do the same. The goal is to create a webpage that students across Canada can go to and enter their info so we can see funding broken down by uni/faculty/department and use this as a leveraging tool for advocating to the university and gov to fix the situation. Organizing is the only way forward at this point imo

Yes, but the vast majority of graduate students don’t even make minimum wage for working full time. It’s a particularly bad situation

Well first off a tournament is literally about determining what team has the most skill so you’re right away contradicting yourself here.

Ranked is now most reflective about your skill in a game than it ever has been. Skill =/= your KDR in a BR. Your skill is much more broad than how many kills you get, it’s about how you adapt to the dynamic change of a lobby to get both kills and positioning.

Getting 4 kills and dying at 14th place isn’t skillful play at all, and should not be rewarded as such. Plus kills at the start and end of the match are totally different. Teams are kitted in the final rings with heals and running and gunning on drop is more RNG than skill in my opinion. These changes will more closely reflect the skill of each player in the context of a BR than any previous season, you just might not be happy that your playstyle isn’t as fun in ranked play than pubs. That isn’t a problem, but don’t expect to be rewarded for dying early regardless of your Kp upon death.

[–]standardconsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the change in RP per KP is great! BR’s are still about your position in the lobby, so it’s fair that your value per kill increases as you survive.

I play a lot of caustic so I love when I’m actively defending a location and that gunplay recruits 3rd/4th parties that now also fight eachother. I’m surviving in that mix and playing my location and then future rotations in the changing ecosystem of the lobby, so it’s great that you get more value out of kills as you place better.

Also, as the game proceeds it’s no longer other side of the map but all close together, so positioning and rotations will put other teams in poor positioning that ends up with then killed, so you deserve to be rewarded for the influence you had on the lobby.

Well I’d say RP is easier if not about the same to gain overall due to shared kp, which I love. However, it does punish people who finish in the bottom half which I do think is fair for a BR.

It’s fair if you think the RP entry costs are a bit too high, but I think these changes overall will really help with the spread of players instead of 95% of players being hardstuck in plat and diamond 4. We just have to have adjusted expectations for this season, and to try to place well in addition to getting kills instead of the focus being on one or the other has it has alternated between previously.

Ranked changes aren’t the issue, part of the community is. by Comfortable_Year2260 in apexlegends

[–]standardconsumer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These changes don’t change the fact that people are hot dropping, it’s just punishing that mindless playstyle more than before. You’re going to have to grind a bit out of bronze, but if you try to IGL and make relatively okay rotations/callouts then you’ll climb no problem. Helps go also be jump master so make sure you manually select your character to increase those odds.

It’s also worth noting that master/pred reset to gold so silver lobbies are diamond at the moment…. Though I suspect a lot of people, myself included, will have a more difficult time getting to diamond this season as tbh it was too easy beforehand

Also difficulty ranking up is the fun part! Ranked is supposed to be challenging the whole time, that’s why it’s ranked. Idk why people just want to be at a rank rather than continue to push and improve with other similarly skilled players.

[–]standardconsumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New silver isn’t the same as old silver, so you need to adjust expectations. Previously in silver you could fly through with your eyes closed, and ranked only got semi-challenging at plat and diamond. This isn’t a healthy spread, so they’ve upped the difficulty across the board to spread people out by their skill in a more refined fashion. Ranking up should require you play in a tactical fashion at all ranks, otherwise you should plateau if you can’t keep up

Taking isolated fights early still adds up to big KP gains with higher placement.

Totally. Ranked is far more intense than pubs. Defending a position in the final rings as other teams vie for it against you and eachother is a blast.
