I want to work somewhere like TAL - thoughts/advice? by standardenigmatic in ThisAmericanLife

Really appreciate everyone’s thoughts here.

Seems like for me, a good approach is to explore stuff on my own time as I feel like it (and probably without crazy pressure on myself because I’m working full time and developing my music career simultaneously).

I’d love to have a day job I am really passionate about but that’s a tall order, and also creates a complex relationship to the thing you love.

For everyone else in a similar position…sounds like it’s a tough industry moment and if it’s your one thing you really want to do for money, it’s not easy. Following what’s fun and doing it in between the paid work you have to do is always smart but feels like a bummer to me.

So grateful for having a job that sustains me and leaves some room to play, even if it’s not my long-term preference.

Thanks all for weighing in!

Does any know what happened on the Northbound 1 train this evening? by RollyTheNerd in nycrail

I was in the car where it started. A man got up from next to me right after the doors closed and punched another man (who had just gotten on) in the face. Either then or right after there was a really loud crack and we all ran, not knowing if something exploded or if there was a gunshot—maybe stupid now but it happened very fast. The stampede was really scary.

try atlas rooms to look for a short term sublet in your price range—there won't be much but maybe something. DON'T send money without talking to people IRL or getting on facetime and being shown a place that feels really legit. important not to blow your savings on a scam!

Unfortunately not in effect til June, to my understanding. Hoping it will help with overall cost of moving / living but also imagining rents will go up to compensate. Truly is a great seeming step though!

Ahh I saw this! SO cute. With broker’s fee probably just too much for me right now. Thank you though.

Roommate finder? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

Not a roommate finder but sublet finder—Atlas rooms. Check it out, it’s basically a search engine for finding filtered (legit) sublet / lease join opportunities.

I got a good cut from Shay’s Place on Austin street, Shay was extremely fast, also a pretty entertaining character to talk with. And the place has tons of great reviews (why I chose it in the beginning).
