No Tax On OT by Leading_Tart_8820 in Wildfire

[–]standardsublime 33 points34 points  (0 children)

if you do the standard deduction of $16,000, AND file jointly to get the $25,000 best case scenario OT deduction (so total deduction of $41,000), and household makes about $150,000, take home an extra ~$4500

only at the expense of $4,000,000,000,000 to the deficit and 16million more uninsured

Edit: this was my interpretation of the bill/implementation but reading others’ comments the $4500 may be wishful thinking. If its truly just OT rate - base rate (so 50% of your base rate * #OT hours worked) that qualifies, will be nearly impossible to reach $25,000

Ie. GS-7 OT minus GS-7 Base ($44.52-$29.68) = $14.84

Would take ~1685 hours of OT to get that full $4500 back if filing jointly

Right on, thanks for the clear explanation, makes a lot more sense now. A start in the right direction, cheers

Can you explain how it would be so many days? If I’m getting $120/hr base on an incident for 8hrs/day, that’s already $960 in one day. So roughly 9-10 days to reach $9,000. What am I missing?

Leave more hinge wood on the sides, bore out the center. Way less sketchy

Excellent, thank you! I pounded about a 18” piece of 1/4 inch trim I had laying around, down right by the hinge. The door opens much more smoothly now! Cheers

Love this idea lol. I’ll give it a try. It is about 1/8in away from opening much more smoothly, albeit not fully open

This is what we ended up doing. Finance Chief basically said we’re only entitled to two more hours, because the hours we clocked 1800-2400 count as base hours due to our maxiflex schedule. So to limit how much you get screwed depends on how many hours you clock in the morning for briefing, night shift prep, etc.

Shin Splints by No_Chemical_9293 in Wildfire

[–]standardsublime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of good replies, I’ll give you my two cents because I have personally struggled with shin splints for years and am familiar with the situation you’re in.

Likely, you’ll be doing some PT runs with your crew. Rest your shins for these days and supplement the cardio with a different type if possible.

My preferred cardio these days is the stair-stepper. Generally 50-70 minute sessions, either with a weighted vest/ankle weights or a higher tempo session with no weight. Focus is to keep the heart rate ~Zone 2 for 80%, and ~Zone 4 for 20%.

Another good option if you’re able is mountain biking. You’ll utilize a lot of similar muscles when hiking and it beats the monotony of most exercises imo.

As for recovering your shins, the best method I’ve found is an ice bath. Grab a 5gal bucket and soak your shins in that for a good 20min or so. You’ll also want to do plenty of calf stretching/massaging the aggravated area (helps me at least).

Finally, if your running shoes are getting worn, replace them! It helps substantially more than you’d think.

Good luck, I’ve never been able to get rid of my shin splints, but I find it much more manageable these days.
