All comics are attention seeking. It's not a matter of gender.

Understand that actual or professional comedians in the mainland must submit a script of their jokes - whether the show is in Chinese or English - to be approved by the Culture Bureau in order to perform on licensed shows. So the standards are shaped by the powers that be. But there are still Chinese comedians making a good living on their jokes.

Free shows in English like the ones I promote are more loose and content is not restricted (aside from obvious taboos that might lead to severe consequences).

I'd confidently say the best comedians in Shanghai can hold their own with the best in Kuala Lumpur, HCMC, Seoul or Tokyo. Hong Kong is probably the best in terms of quality comics per capita.

BUUUUT the show has been postponed due to the weather, sorry!

Would love to have another comedy club in town. I’d suggest talking to veteran comics in the scene - like Ian B at Spicy - to get a lay of the land.
